I’ve decided to remove the barrel band front sight and “regulate “ the barrels to the same poi. Then I’ll add something as an optic. Perhaps a Leupold fire dot 1.5x4 or something similar.
Thats sort of my thought on doing a 2x7 scope with a red dot added.
the thought of a see thru mounted scope seemed good but i think it would be hard to "find" a bunny or flying bird through it quickly.
Ive got a Savage model 24 over under 222 rifle on top and 20 Gauge on bottom. I have been trying to come up with the best option for sights / optic. It came with a fixed 6X which was ok for rifle but terrible for shotgun use. I tried a 1x6x24 strike eagle LPVO and it was ok but heavy and the...
Recent update.
Sorry ive been gone for awhile. Ive been very busy as of late with the passing of a brother and helping out his family.
Ive shot a good bit now with 123 ELDM, 123SST, 125 Partition and 129 ABLR from both 18" and 12" Grendel's with Faxon barrels. I have found accurate loads for all...
I’m looking at getting a new Leupold scope today for my 12”
something light and able to shoot deer out to 150 yards.
im trying to decide between 3 scopes all are Leupolds.
freedom 2-7x33 (11.1oz. 11in long)
freedom 1-4x20 ( 9.6oz 9.3in long)
vx3. 1-5x20. ( 10.1 oz. 9.7 long) $200 more than...
I’ve run the numbers on them. As you said. The advantage that the 129 ablr has is the lower velocity it opens up at. The 120 and 123 class bullets actually have better numbers but don’t open up below 1800 fps mostly. I have a load using TAC with 125 partitions that shoots well but it doesn’t...
Shot some test loads today of 129 grain ablr’s with tack powder. Had 1 load that was excellent accuracy in both the new 12” build and in the 18”. Not really fast but crazy accurate.
Probably bit late but I was in the same place few weeks ago trying to decide on a scope for my 18”.
I sometimes shoot farther but I took 3 different scopes out in the woods and tried them out. I settled on a Lepould 4-12. However I also decided to put a vortex 1x8 strike eagle on my 12” build...
Thanks for that. I ordered some 90 grain TNT and some 100 ELDM today too so I can play with them also. Heck half the fun is tinkering with hand loading bullets, powders n such. I’ve heard lots of good things about TNT’s and ABLR so I figured I would try heavy lighter and in between to see what...
So far the only bullets I’ve tried in Grendel 18” has been 123 SST, ELDM , 125 partitions. I’ve gotten good accuracy loads for all 3 using TAC and CFE223. I’m looking Forward to finishing the 12” and finding loads for it. I did pick up today 4 boxes of 123 SST one box of ELDM and even though I...
Thanks to all of you that gave your input on velocity and bullets. I’ve taken few deer with a recurve bow and few with compound. I’ve shot deer with 222 to one with a 300 win and many calibers in between. I understand shot placement and only taking shots when they are good shots to take. I hunt...
Thanks for that ARK_Ginger.
I decided on the 12" Grendel to replace a 300 BLK i keep in the truck and grab when i need something. Ive came to the conclusion after much research that it would be tuff to beat the 123's . As for simplicity I dont use or shoot much 5.56 anymore and don't have one...
LOL I hear ya. Rifle wise ive used a few different ones over the years on deer but doing a 12" Grendel at its lower velocities has me uncertain as to what bullet would work well in it. Right now im thinking ill just run with the 123 SST or maybe ELDM that i have lads for and using in 18". Its...
Thanks gentlemen for the information. I chose the Grendel because it has excellent ballistics and range. Is it my beloved 30-06 of so many years and deer? No but it’s an excellent cartilage for multi purpose and medium game. I wanted something lighter and different than my bolt 06.
Thus I...
I thought that also but.
Well I ran numbers on the 90 tnt and 95 v max the 100 gr ELD ran better with its higher bc and showed a better energy at farther distance. However it still didn’t carry energy as well or as far as a 123 ELD or SSt. Lighter were definitely faster but had less energy...
I’m enjoying a 18” Grendel as my first AR platform deer specific rifle. I’m now starting to build a 12” Grendel. It’s going to be a multi purpose truck woods and critter gun including deer. I’ve settled on hand loads of 123 grain SST and 125 grain partitions for the 18” So I’m trying to decide...
