Varget for .243 and 6.5 CM?

I have a couple loads in both 243 (100 gr) and 6.5 CM (120 gr) that use H4895. They aren’t fast, but they are really tame and sure shoot well! Otherwise my go-to powders with heavier bullets are imr-4350 for 243 and h4350 in 6.5. They are close enough in burn rate that you should be able to...

Which handedness bolt action should I buy?

How well do you shoot the shotgun, and are you shooting it righty or lefty? To me that is the driving factor since most shoot a shotgun with both eyes open and that is where the biggest issues arise. If you are shooting well, get a bolt gun to shoot the same way as your shotgun. If it could...

223 hand loads for prairie dogs

We also settled on the 40 grain Nosler ballistic tips, and used a stout dose of accurate 2015 to drive them. We mostly shoot out to about 250, and as mentioned the accuracy and splat factor were both impressive.

You went from high quality 15’s to NL Pure 12s… Get in here!

My progression was SLC 15, to NL 12, to EL 10. I think it depends on what your companion optic is, hunting style and how much weight you want to carry. Really happy with the EL 10s and BTX I have now, which I use for open country mule deer. For me, 12x and 15x are about the same. Great at...

    Reloading 308 tikka

Winchester 748 is a ball powder very similar in burn rate to varget. Never used it, but varget is one of the better powders for 308. We have also had good luck in 243 (308 parent case) with Winchester 760, which is also a ball powder. One question though…if you like the American whitetail...

    .243 Factory Loads Question

We have taken a lot of deer with 80 grain Barnes ttsx. They would work on coyotes too.

    I need help

I don’t know about best, but I have used the kinetic bullet pullers in the last. They work but it would take a while to do a box… For the primers I have just “shot” them in my rifle after the bullet and powder were removed.

    6.5 Creed Deer load

I shoot 120 nosler BTs and the 127 LRX in mine. I prefer the BTs since they expand a little better, but no complaints on either one on mule deer between 40 and 200 yards. At the distances you are talking about I would use the one that shoots the best. If you like to load hot I would go with...

    Oregon Mule Deer season dates//Behavior

I think we are 2-3 weeks late for summer patterns and 10-14 days too early for the buck activity to increase. In other words, right smack in the middle of the most difficult time to find a nice buck… Best hope is for weather, whether that be cooler temps, moisture to quiet things down, or snow...

7mm-08 vs 7mm RM reduced loads and recoil for kids.

Yes, very interchangeable between the 2. As a side note, the tikka actions are the same size, so you could take out the bolt stops and go to a long action down the road too.

7mm-08 vs 7mm RM reduced loads and recoil for kids.

I would keep with the 243, and start with reduced recoil loads in that. H4895 works great at around 60% of a max charge. That’s what my kids shoot. Having taken a pile of deer and varmints with a 243 I can firmly say it’s plenty. If you feel the need to buy a new rifle, I would get either a...

    Oregon Mule Deer Units

My understanding is that you can hunt muleys in a specific unit in September OR you can hunt the entire west side, which has a September season and then some November seasons based on the unit. You cannot hunt both, regardless of your success.

Sold Crispi Nevada 10.5 EE-Like New

Crispi Nevadas in 10.5 EE. Like new with maybe 10 miles on them. My running shoes and light hikers are usually 11.5, so these run a little big. Great boot, but just not quite the right fit. Purchased over the winter and worn sparingly, mostly around the house and walking the dog. $375 TYD.

    Ruger American 6.5 CM

I load for a couple different CMs (not Rugers though) and use h4350 in bullets 125+ and h4895 for the 120s. In both cases, they aren’t the fastest powders but they shoot really well. For deer and coyotes I would probably go with a 120 nosler bt and a moderate charge of h4895 for accuracy. If...

    30-06 round

165 partition would be my choice, all things being equal. It’s a great combo of expansion and penetration. That said, I would buy a couple options and see what shoots best. At 150 yards and less, it’s far more important to get the bullet where you want it than what kind of bullet it is.

    New to spotting scopes

I think it depends on what you want to do, but generally really good 10x on a tripod can handle glassing out past a half mile with ease. I would start there since at a couple hundred yards the field of view on 15s or a spotter is going to be really small. If you need more oomph than that, I...
