Think of it this way:
- Preference Points = Limited Draw
- OTC = Unlimited Draw
Different draw, different license (sort-of) and different rules. In order to gain a preference point in CO it is supposed to be your first choice on the limited draw hunting application. Any secondary choices...
For P&Y, you can have him measured anytime after 60 days of dry time. So if it is 5yrs or 61 days they can still come out and measure. It wasn't too bad when I went through the process last year and those stud bulls deserve the recognition I think! Well done!
OP: One piece of info I'd love to know is what you're currently using? I've gone from a dome to a tipi and sometimes it works but sometimes it causes more trouble for getting folks organized with a slightly odd floor shape versus a pretty straight-forward square and I'll still break out the...
6 days left in the season for archery and here you are making me think maybe I could squeeze in one more piece of a day somehow….awesome bull and inspiration!
In a pinch don't forget that any dog (not even a trained tracker) has a better sniffer than any human. And they love smells. ALL the smells. Sure it might take a bit of time, but even with a labradoodle or mutt I'd say you're more likely to find a trail than just trying to use your own...
Just got that Christiansen FFT in a 6.5 PRC with an intent to use it for a cow elk hunt next year. How do you like it in the 300WM? I'm a Gillette visitor mainly but have been down through Riverton a few times on the way to ID.
Welcome! Time is always a challenge for hunting, I only could muster 3 days with family commitments so am living the same thing in Denver. Good luck in November!
Also with the waiting, find where there is standing water nearby. Gut-shot elk may go a ways to find a water source since they feel more “sick” than “dying”. Ponds, lakes, etc are worth mapping in your grid search as a first stop.
Well, by being close to Colorado I think it is safe to assume that you're going to have plenty of people. Archery season where we hunt you'll come across maybe 2-3 folks across 5 square miles. Same area in rifle and it is 10x that for number of hunters.
As others have said, it is CO. On the other hand, new moon is over the 15th so I'd sort of expect potentially more action (hunters and elk) over the 2nd and 3rd weeks than the last week. First week will always be crazy since it is a holiday weekend. By the last week, the light isn't in your...
One of our hunting party just drew a sheep tag at age 60+ and getting him into lighter gear and dropping his "this has always worked" cotton layers and 5lb sleeping bag has been an interesting journey to be ready for this hunt. He's now kitted out with solid gear that will last the rest of his...
these guys advertise in the Colorado Bowhunters Association magazine so they will get my business if I'm fortunate this September.
