    It’s something my grandfather and father did for a lot of years between living in AK, ID and NM. My dad INSISTS it’s the way to go. Letting the old man in his 70’s have his way on a few things hasn’t hurt me any.

    It’s all good! The “dirt” is black pepper. I put it on the outside of the carcass to keep the birds off while I continued hunting with my son. The skinning job is legitimately terrible partially from doing the work in the dark, partially because my 12yo son helped and it was his first go.

    18” 7PRC pushing 175’s @2830fps. I run a TBAC ultra 5 on it. I wouldn’t hesitate to go 18” on a magnum just not with a brake.

    I always shoot vitals. Lowest impact velocity to date is 2200fps @535 yards on a large bodied 3x3 mulie. I caught about 20 grains of lead on the offside hide and his lungs were soup.

    it’s been great! Just enough to DRT everything I’ve hit with it but it holds up well enough to prevent meat damage. I’ll continue using them for sure.
