I’ve lived my entire life in windy dusty areas where dust on the range or while shooting a thousands of rounds at prairie dogs is more common than not. I’ve never seen dust cause a hard bolt lift, and neither have you. Dust, even blowing sand doesn’t work that way. I wouldn’t doubt the round...
You mean like the posts about how to fix a cocking piece that bent with hand pressure when improperly disassembled, or the posts where everyone replaces the factory trigger spring, then someone brings up they don’t do well in a jarring test, and Form says they no longer allow replacement springs...
I guess I can’t relate. All the folks in their 70s around me are active, healthy, busy, happy people. I’m not around a lot of 80 year olds, but the ones I do know still carry on independently, drive their 5th wheel to Arizona in the winter, Oregon for salmon runs, and still mow their own...
I’ve always liked new white paint and a black table if the machine was kept in the house to be more acceptable to the misses. This 31-15 isn’t one of my machines, but I saved the picture since it shows a new servo, fresh white paint, an old style set of legs and new black top.
The first industrial I sewed with is like an extra heavy duty old time residential, but can sew with thicker thread. It was old equipment not used by the smoke jumpers in Montana so we requisitioned it to modify and repaired packs and pack cloth projects. The 31-15 was originally for tailors...
I earned a merit badge for a rich client’s son by building a big composting bin without the kid’s help. My hat’s off to you for actually doing the 20 miles. For anyone young or old, 20 miles is a good walk. It will change his perspective going forward and open up some long hikes he otherwise...
When our daughter in law picked it up a few years ago I didn’t realize what a pain in the butt it was going to be. She was tested every 6 months and her levels kept going down slowly and just in the last month she’s able to eat everything. Hopefully your sister in law gets over it eventually.
Sub sandwiches are near the bakery, that reminded me of taking a dozen doughnuts one day. A Stanley jug of hot water and a few premium ramen noodles are good, or boiling hot chicken soup instead of hot water. Or skip the Roman and make some home made thick noodles like the Grandmas in the...
The fat content is high, but this year I’m really enjoying biscuits and a good chicken gravy to dip them in . . . throw in an entire rotisserie chicken if it’s going to be a long day.
Homemade corn tortillas are really good.
Homemade flour tortillas are really good. A double thickness flour...
Plastic isn’t doing a very good job of killing us if we keep living longer. The argument for turning vegetarian is more scientifically convincing. As for chemical analysis showing harmful chemicals, look at the chemicals that are deposited on food while smoking or bbqing and it’s much more...
I’ve had great results with 160 gr Partition and 175. In penetration tests the difference between the two is minimal, like 5%, but you can’t go wrong with either bullet.
I’ve found the CA hate to be humorous. I keep buying CA take off barrels and they are a great value, often shooting as well as one costing two or three times as much. I get extra pleasure spanking the kids with a $200 barrel. For all the talk of people demanding accuracy, many have settled...
Virgin brass is so undersize I’m surprised the dies did anything. I’d sharpie a piece of the brass to see where it’s binding in the chamber. If dies are squeezing the sides near the shoulder causing the shoulder to squish upward, the die is too long and not keeping the shoulder pushed down...
I’m embarrassed for them. They try to make a witty argument, that falls on its face for absurdity. I can’t imagine why this was written, let alone who decided it was worth publishing.
Two sets of one legged calf raises both done to exhaustion will often be a wake up call the next day as they walk funny if getting in shape has been on the back burner.
Also simply stepping onto and off of a 20” box for 10 minutes will be a challenge.
Wearing a 70 lb pack for half a day on...
I had a spreadsheet with the weight of everything, the cost to upgrade the item to one of lighter weight, and the cost per ounce of savings. That governed my purchases for a few decades. If you use alkaline batteries, switching to lithium is one of the biggest surprises on paper, but every...
Oh, another thing to check on old receivers is the condition of the firing pin spring - very weak primer strike can cause wonky accuracy. If fired primer dimples look shallow compared to other rifles I’d suspect that. Many old bolts are also full of dried grease and gunk.
That’s the same rifle I bought from a friend with a fixed 4x Leupold. He sold it because of large groups. I played with a year before the scope completely crapped out. Then it was back to making 5 shot 1” groups every time. I sold it to a friend decades ago and he still has it and it shoots...
