FYI, many jurisdictions do not allow scopes for qualifying for Muzzleloader/Tags/Seasons.
So before buying a real fancy one, check if you can use a scope where you want to hunt, in case you haven't already.
Without a scope, eyesight may be a bigger limiting factory for real life accuracy than...
Unless you want the 6” barrel to potentially handgun hunt with, I’d recommend a shorter barrel, more in the 3” to 4ish” range.
The shorter barrel is faster to draw, seriously.
Also, one of the few advantages of a revolver over a semi is that if the bear gets you by surprise and is already...
Definitely nothing but OTC mountain lion in NV. In NV tags sell out by late spring/early summer for all the non OTC big game species.
Not sure about AZ
It was a very disappointing learning experience.
I saw no deer, and almost no sign of deer such a tracks or droppings throughout the unit.
I saw lots of other hunters, everyone I talked to had not much better luck than me.
I will never buy a "premium" deer tag OTC in California again.
don't spend that much money on one rifle.
you could get a Ruger American Gen II in 30-06 for around $500ish
And a great scope for around $300
And have about two thousand left over for other stuff.
I always follow the law, but of all the times I have had an interaction with a park ranger or game warden, they sometimes check license, they sometimes check if ammo is non-lead (non-toxic shot on wildlife refuges)
But they have never checked the caliber of any of my guns, or the draw weight of...
So, I am going rifle hunting this weekend with a buck mule deer tag in the high desert mountains East of Bakersfield, CA.
Am relatively inexperienced, and when I was planning on going this hunt months ago, I thought going deer hunting in early October would be great.
Now, there is record...
I am trying to understand why I am consistently more accurate shooting my .22's offhand as opposed to my centerfires?
For example, I have a .22 Glock model 44 that is similar in dimensions to a Glock 19 9mm, but I am WAY more accurate with the .22 version than I am with the 9mm version.
In...
Buck 119 is a great knife.
Only cheaper option I know of is Harbor Freight's generic knockoff for about 1/3rd the price:
https://www.harborfreight.com/6-in-bowie-knife-58090.html
I'd use the .357 revolver with a soft point.
One advantage of the revolver is that my understanding is that lion often attack by surprise, and if you end up grappling with it, you can push the barrel of a revolver up against it and blast it without the gun going out of battery like most...
Hello, I am somewhat of an "adult-onset" hunter and last year was the first year I hunted any big game.
For this year, I applied for a lot of tags (Deer, antelope, bear, and turkey) in my home state of Nevada, both any legal weapon and where possible, muzzleloader, and I also applied for...
Are there still some states that arbitrarily require a minimum of .30 caliber for centerfire to take certain big game species?
I know my state some years ago lowered the caliber restriction to just be any centerfire 22 or greater, but out of the 50 states I suspect there are some that may still...
As long as you can draw and shoot quick and accurate enough, any 10mm FMJ should work just fine.
Plenty of people have used 9mm to defend against bears.
I keep my .45acp loaded with Sellier and Bellot 230 grain FMJ, they are loaded a bit hotter than the .45acp Winchester service grade ball...
