It wasn’t the issue on how long the tow took to reach us…it was the 9ish hr gap between “the tow is preparing to leave Fairbanks” and “the tow is preparing to leave Fairbanks”. Completely destroyed any credibility they had.
We were several hours south of Coldfoot. Not unreachable by any standards.
Day hunt in warm temps with access to the car? Not very important. Alaskan backcountry in September? Very important.
All depends on your style and climate of hunting. I never wore rain pants until I moved to AK. A packed away poncho worked just fine for deer hunting in the southeast.
I dont even use my spotter for bears unless Im hunting other animals and come across a bear (fella in my profile pic met his end that way), or interested in digiscoping. 10x on a tripod is the max Ill go, and I usually leave the tripod at home tbh. To be fair- Im almost always hunting bears...
I drew a goat tag for fall of 21 and my kiddo was due in July, but ended up being born in June. You are much smarter than I was, but at least I’m still married. 🤷♂️
Awesome quilt, and the long/wide is the move to make in order to ensure you never get a draft. Love being able to unzip the foot box and use it the same way as my USGI/Kifaru woobie. My 10deg quilt, paired with a great pad, is sufficient from April to October here in AK.
Wild. Ive worn mine for at least 20 flights and never had an issue. Wonder if he changed the material/composition. Maybe you just look like the suspicions type lol /s.
TSA picks up the stiffener? Is this with the full body scan? Im pre-check and have never had an issue with the metal detector or the few times I was selected to go through the scan.
Theres definitely bears around Skilak, both black and brown. Echoing everyone elses comments about the lake though- I once packrafted the canyon with a friend and spent the weekend chasing ducks along the SE side of the lake. Paddling back towards the trail and the takeout the wind picked up and...
Hard to beat Beltman belts. I’ve worn mine daily since 2015 and the only reason I’ve bought more belts (also Beltman) is to add more variety.
For CCW I’d opt for the internal stiffener.
Im a fan of my Skydio2, but its shining features are its autonomous tracking as well as its "keyframe" mode. Would not recommend it for covering large areas.
Im a fan of the Redcliff for its slightly square shape that makes it way easier/faster (at least for me) to pitch. Ive had a Redcliff for about 5 seasons now and this past year I was on a trip with a group that had an 8 man and I felt it was more of a pain to setup solo. If you use trees or...
Unfortunately not Kodiak, but I do plan on going back there to chase goats. This is from the top of Crow Pass, which is a popular enough trail that I know I’m not giving anything away haha.
It wasn’t my credit card that you guys tried to add an unauthorized $32,185.27 charge to, so I’m more upset at the way the incident was handled on the day of. Early in the morning we were told a tow and spare vehicle was enroute, so we declined numerous offers of assistance from passing vehicles...
That’s a common occurrence with them. Our rental broke down 2 hrs south of Coldfoot and, despite assurances within the hour that they were sending a tow and a replacement vehicle, it took about 16 hrs for them to reach our party.
5 of our group of 10 ended up hitchhiking, because having...
I second the recommendation for tundra hippies. If you’ve never walked on tundra before those tussucks can be a real pain and I prefer more ankle support than muck boots and their equivalent provide.
Wading boots, tundra hippies, and gaiters over the hippies has been an ideal combo for me, but...
I’ve been a lurker for years, but I gotta get some posts in if I wanna be able to use the classifieds. What better way to do that then sharing some of my favorite memories.
Alaska in September.
