After three years in a row of hunting bulls and going 2 out of 3, I’ve got me a cow tag this year. I’ve enjoyed the bull meat very much, but can’t wait to harvest another cow. Any elk is good IMO for sure!
88 days till we set up camp and 93 till opening day. We have 3 cow tags. Can’t wait to get up there and camp and relieve all the nerves of time leading up to opening day! It’s my favorite time of year! September will be good month too doing some grouse hunting. Happy huntin n campin to...
Dad and I both got our elk tags for 2nd season and deer tags for late season. My wife drew a 2nd season deer tag. This will be her 1st ever hunt. So happy for her😀 Looking forward to that one! Can’t wait for the fall hunts!!
I can absolutely recommend Bountiful Meats and Processing just south of La Jara. It’s 68 miles- and 1 hr and 11 minutes from Saguache but highly recommended! Another place is PDA Big Game Processing LLC in Del Norte. He’s good too! It’s only 37 miles from Saguache.
Hope this helps! Have...
The trusty ol’ savage .308. In ‘21 two years ago- got my 1st bull with it! I just love the way it shoots and is very accurate now compared to what it used to be. I’m taking it out again this next weekend for a chance at another bull. Can’t wait! Set up camp today already.
But- I’m like...
My .308 savage loves the 165 Nosler accubonds but also found the Barnes VOR-TX 168 grain TTSX to be one it favors too. I took my first bull with the Barnes 168 grain in fall of ‘21– @ 169 yds. Two steps and down he went. The Nosler 165’s I’ve taken many cows with. I highly recommend them!

10 years of youth hunting with my 2 sons went by way too fast for me. We still go on hunts together- but my oldest has his wife and hunting partner now. I’m happy for all the memories we had- mid 2000’s. Those were the years a youth could go hunt the whole month of December if a tag was...
I’m new to the forum as well- but I’ve had 39 years experience hunting in the field for elk, deer and antelope, even moose.
One of the exciting things for sure is to find the elk in the same places over and over again. Granted- in your mind- you’re telling yourself when you go back the next...
I’m new to the forum- but really enjoyed this thread. I own a Savage model 99E in .308- handed down as gift from my dad when I was a teen. It’s the best rifle I’ve owned! Taken many elk with it since then- including my first bull- a five point two years ago. I now use Barnes- TTSX in 165...
