Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

After getting a couple more jackets, I'm leaning toward this. The functionality is the best I've found - minus noise - the color was/is my only real hangup.

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

Right on. Are you using the new(er) 3L AscentShell one? I was impressed with it when I tried it on. Really solid for the price, and the fit was indeed good, def not boxy.

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

Definitely some differences, yes. My Primus Trail Knit FG fit smaller than my Tracker ESC. My Gobi Lux fit similar to the Tracker ESC, but not quite as roomy, and with less volume in the forefoot.

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

Damn, thanks man, you just saved me $370 on trying the Kutana, haha. Long neck and giant noggin here, too, and the Stone Glacier M5 that just arrived has a tiny hood too. At least for me. For people with normal heads it's probably good. That Beta AR is a killer jacket, and the Tatsu color is...

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

That's about how much room I have in mine. IME Vivo's run a bit long, so I focus on fitting the width. My feet slip forward a bit sometimes going downhill, but at least in my experience, that's less of ap problem for a couple reasons: the leather is soft enough that your toes don't smash into a...

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

I wear a medium to large in most things. I'd look like a kid wearing his dad's jacket in XL. Yeah, your point to not being able to have it both ways is what always gets me, haha. I'm a big fan of "quiver-killer" gear, but this may be an impossible task for a early/mid/late-season rain shell.

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

It's crazy how pricey they get. Under $200 is a bit tricky for sure. Outdoor Research's new Foray 3L seems really solid. I just tried it on today, and fit was good, not too baggy at all, and the torso was longer than my Patagonia and old Kuiu (which is probably shorter than new Kuiu, to be...

Stone Glacier M5 Rain Gear, User Reviews.

What a bummer! Hopefully they've fixed the latest ones, or it was just a lemon. I've def seen enough of your posts to assume it wasn't user error, ha. I have Kuiu Chugach that I've had for like six or seven years, but never wear it since I bought too small on final sale. Thanks for the input, again.

Stone Glacier M5 Rain Gear, User Reviews.

Oof. Was it the pockets or zippers? I noticed there are no zipper hoods on the pit zips. Really appreciate the info and speedy reply!

Stone Glacier M5 Rain Gear, User Reviews.

bumping this again. I just got my M5, and really like the fit, and the fabric seems nice (although I feel like the softer face fabric will definitely wet out more quickly.) Any other input on how it will hold up, particularly to really wet, cold climates and thick brush-busting (PNW here)...

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

Great to hear, thanks. The Kutana was on my radar, sounds like I need to give it a try. You feel like the torso is cut long enough to cover your insulation layer? My down jacket is a longer cut, so that's proved to be an issue when it gets rainy.

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

Yeah the OR Archangel I have is definitely an alpine cut - long in the arms and torso for reaching up climbing. Works for my body, I just wish the fabric wasn't so loud. I don't have any other experience with GoreTex Pro though. I actually have that Mountain Hardware jacket. It's great! It's my...

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

Appreciate it! I've never tried Arc'teryx stuff yet, but everyone speaks super highly of it. I have a bit of newer Kuiu stuff and it is great. Tried the Super Down LT and it was a little baggy on me, but their pants and other shirts have been A+. Might need to keep trying.

Rain/hard shell woes for non-chonky fellas

After ordering my sixth rain jacket / hard shell (not precisely the same, I know, but minus my snowboarding gear I have them do double duty) I'm about at the end of my patience, and could use some input since I've got analysis paralysis at this point. Currently have a basic Patagonia rain...

Grizzly bear killed in Unit 6

Absolutely shocking that this thread, given the area, would devolve into encouraging poaching. *shocking* 🤣

There's a bunch of black pairs (and brown) on Revivo right now as well! Saves a bundle.

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

Well heck. I guess I'll slow my roll then. Am I right that keeping up with longer distances/heavier weights in other footwear is ok, in terms of not being counterproductive with building my feet up? Thanks for the advice.

    Vivo forest tracker esc durability

Alright question for you guys using these for longer weight bearing activity. Granted I'm a newer to full-on barefoot shoes (but have been wearing Altra Lone Peaks and Lems for a couple years) - but now that I'm starting to add 30-50 pounds to hikes with my Trackers and Primus, I'm getting some...
