Lots of attempts to release pen raised birds to help wild populations; I believe the Wildlife Dept. here in OK tried it for a while. Seems only about 10% or so make it past the first few months, not good odds. I thought the surrogators were to be a game changer but have not seen state...
First time entering in elk draw, have had low expectations and stayed cool until today, I'm on pins & needles logging in every 5 min to check.........this is worse than target panic.....
Upland guy myself and 2 yrs ago I upgraded from old Tri Tronics to Garmin 200i; could not be happier. The handheld is a great gps and I plan on using it on my CO elk hunt in sept. with the InReach service activated.
Upland guy here in Oklahoma, always been English Setters for quail. My sons roped me into ducks so we added a Griff to the family. Points, retrieves everything, best dang companion we've ever had. Can't run with the setters much but all the close work is his. Amazing dog, very soft...
I had the same thoughts on truncating the y-axis, don't like it. That being said, I'm a lifelong Oklahoma archery and upland guy and now with kids out of the house elk hunting is getting all my attention. Regret not jumping in when I lived in CO. as a younger man.
The lbs. some of you are rucking is higher than I expected to hear; need to up my game. Started ~4 wks ago, 20 lbs, 4+ miles on paved hills. I'm ready to add 5 lbs. and have another go :-)

Mostly an upland and turkey guy, stopped deer hunting sime years back. Application is in for my first CO archery elk hunt this year so getting all the gear gathered up for a multiday backpack hunt. Training started 2 months ago :)...
