Most of my hunting is just north of the middle of mn where I live. We are right on the edge of OK pheasant hunting for MN, however the family farm/ hunting land is just north about 1 hr and we have pheasants and grouse so we spend alot of weekends there. We also go to northern MN quite a bit...
Ya, I will not be doing any hunt test or contest. I don't waterfowl hunt anymore as I prefer to walk around and chase pheasants after work or grouse on the weekends. I don't have a problem working/ training a pup along side of my 2 and 5 year old kids. But like I mentioned before my wife...
Thanks for the response guys, I did some more digging around this weekend with breeders in the state asking a lot of questions. I think you are right by locating a breeder that does more all around work with the dogs/ pups vs ones that kennel them 24/7 unless running field trials.
I agree with what your saying spur60. My wife mentioned the other day that we should spend a little extra and get a starter pup as well. I have also been thinking about a female Drathaar or shorthair as I dont need a 90lb lab anymore. I'm not a fan of Vislas, I know a couple people with them...
I always had labs growing up and we have a 13 year old lab now but my wife would prefer if the next dog I get doesn't shed as much as our yellow lab now. I dont waterfowl hunt anymore just strictly pheasant and grouse. I was leaning more toward something like a Brittany, Munster lander, that...
I will check that out, another question I have is there a huge difference between the 40mm and 50mm objectives in the 3-9ish or 4.5-14ish size magnification scopes. Also still trying to stay on the lighter weight of things.
I would like to lean more toward a dial turrets for elevation, I currently hand load/ and borrow a chrono when gathering my ballistics data. I always have a rangefinder on me next to my binos. My max hunting shooting distance i practice out to is 400 yards.
I was looking at a Leupold VX3 4.5-14x40 CDS ZL, however alot of people on here talk about Trijicon's.... I can get a Trijicon Credo 3-9x40 for $501 or an Accupoint 3-9x40 for $561.
What are some recommendations for a basic scope (does not need big turrets or illumination) , lightweight, around $500ish, best glass for the money. I will be using it on a 300win mag or 7mm rem mag for western style hunting.
