    Deer pack questions

I’m in western Washington. Not a lot of private land options so I’ll be on public. I have no idea how long the hikes will be as I’m just starting out this coming season. The ideas from this thread and others have made me think I should start relatively close to truck access and try to limit...

    Deer pack questions

Thanks. That’s inline with my thoughts. I think 1800 is plenty for cold weather day trip. I’ll still double check against old packs if I can find their sizing somehow.

    Deer pack questions

2500 for a day trip? Think back to my backpacking days, I could carry that size pack for a week long mild weather hike. I think that’s what has me confused in size. I’m due to go gather everything again and double check the volume. Is the general consensus 2000-3000 cu in for a day hunt?

Kuiu Pro Bush Pants - First Impressions

Really interested in how these do bushwhacking and taking briars. Nice write up so far.

    Deer pack questions

Thanks for the input everyone. I'm a fairly light packer so I lean toward smaller packs. The pop up 28 at 1710 cu in is all the volume I would expect to need for long days that I'm not carrying overnight gear. I've been also looking at frame and bag combos like Exo gear K3 system where I might...

    Seattle area

Been lurking here a while reading and learning. Finally posting. Found Rokslide from research on upland and turkey gear but stayed around because it's one of the best hunting forums I've found. Many thanks to all the shared wisdom.

    Sitka Turkey Vest

My buddy has this vest and loves it. It can mount a bow to the backpack portion so when we're hiking out he's hands free. Haven't tried to mount a shotgun on it yet but we will this season. I didn't like the placement of pockets for me and also we both found it added heat and changed our...

    Deer pack questions

I've been getting ready for my first deer hunt next fall and I came across the question of packing out. I figure it's best to plan for success but I see a ton of packs that are not meant for meat hauling. When or why would you use a pack without meat hauling capabilities? Are there other methods...

    Let’s see your bird vests.

I've been over researching vests the last few weeks and keep coming back to something like the final rise or marsupial gear strap vests. I have the idea that I can use it for turkey hunts as well but I can't get over the price of these systems. Has anyone used theirs for turkey? Is this way off...

    First time turkey bowhunting

I've done turkey with bow and I use a combo of run and gun and call. Works real good with a partner. We call and head toward the birds then when we get close one of us posts up in their predicted path while the other moves ahead of them and calls. This sets you up for a shot as they cross in...

    Upland shotguns

Great feedback on this. I've been debating about using my nice clay o/u for upland (only shotgun) or getting a field gun that I shoot less but is lighter and cheaper. I'm leaning toward a second gun if for nothing else it can be a trap day loaner.
