    Single man shelters

A super low budget choice would be the Eureka Solitaire. Not much fun to hang out in - but since they changed the poles from fiberglass to aluminum it's a decent option for sheltered locations considering the low price. I prefer to be able to sit up in a shelter, so it's no longer one that I'd...

Brands you just couldn’t make work

Stone Glacier krux evo and xcurve didn't work for me. Mystery Ranch was pretty but after the changes in the harness sizing they made a couple of years ago their harnesses don't fit nearly as well me anymore. I considered grabbing an older Metcalf or similar pack before I ended up finding...

Lowa Baffin Pro. I've used them for wildland firefighting and hunting with no issues.

solo and 2 person hot tent

I'd encourage you to look at other options in addition to Seek Outside. There are several pyramid choices in that price range. A 9x9 or 10x10 from oware would work great. Dave might be able to sew a stove jack for you, or you could do it yourself or have someone else do it. I believe Argali has...

    Affordable elk boots

I wear Merrells and Keens for work in the woods. They'll do fine. Heck, you'll probably be fine with $60 Asics from Kohls.

How much tent is too much?

I would think 4 w/o a stove in the Redcliff would work fine if you guys are friends. Then again I'd do 4 in the Cimarron... as others have stated, a stove changes the equation. But IMO I wouldn't buy the 12 man unless I already had some places in mind where I wanted to set it up. It's too big...

    Ruger American Stock Mod

Looks great. I did a bondo job on my ruger american rimfire stock and wondered how it would hold up - three years later with quite a bit of use and it's still holding up well.

    Cheap Stuff that Works

Mora and Victorinox knives Rick Young bino harness with lightweight binos Casio digital watch Chap stick I'm not a big spender when I can avoid it. But I find that for reliability you usually have to go at least up into the mid-range of any type of product.

    Mystery Ranch x Dior Collab...

If you want to be safe and avoid any problematic crossovers you might have a hard time. The clock is ticking on Stone Glacier and Exo... it's only a matter of time. To be truly safe you need to buy from one of the real small, really uncool companies like Nimrod Packs. FWIW I am bothered by...

    What's your pack choice?

Badlands, Kelty, Alps, etc... all very popular. I wonder how popular they are with people getting deep into the backcountry though. But I have no doubt people are getting it done with cheaper gear and older gear - I know they are.

    What's your pack choice?

Since there's not a choice for "other," I'll just leave a comment. My Outdoorsmans Optics Hunter is a great pack. The shoulder straps are very good. The hipbelt is pretty good - it's basically a wraparound style that has some similarities to Seek Outside and to older external frames. The frame...
