I hunt 66a each year and live nearby. It doesn't "feel" like there are a ton of bears in there, but I will get one on camera from time to time. I could have shot a young sow this year while elk hunting, but didn't want to deal with it.
Danny,
Your only option at this point is to cross your fingers for a returned tag. I am an Idaho resident and had a buddy want to hunt with me a little more last minute. Check the regs for return dates and be quick when it opens. Last year there were 3 different return tag dates. My friend was...
I live in Teton Valley, Idaho. Usually by this time most of the valley floor (6,200 ft +/-) is mostly dry, but this year we have a lingering 4-5 ft of snow. The poor deer are living in people's yards in town to find whatever food they can. The 100+ elk herd that grazes in the field next to my...
Which retail store has anyone found to be the most helpful in boot fitting? I find it a little disappointing that it's difficult to get the same level of boot fitting that one might get with ski boots or technical running shoes. Our hunting boots are so specific an all fit a little different...
Just not the right boot for me, unfortunately. A great way to let a few hundred dollars fly away in the wind. Put one season in them (one month of hunting on mostly weekends.) Probably 100 miles or so in em. Fresh treatment on them too, hence the shiny appearance. Good shape, plenty of life...
I have no idea about availability or which tag you would need, but my buddy runs a solid operation in Wyoming. It's a backcountry, horsepacking style trip. It sounds like their success rate is pretty solid, but pretty serious bear country. DM if you want his contact info. Might be worth a...
Here's my 2 cents. I went both routes last year and found it useful in certain situations. Hunting bigger mountain terrain with a few miles of visibility, it was actually nice to have. We were able to spot both elk and mule deer with the scope that we wouldn't have spotted otherwise. This opened...
I have hated mine. When I wore them around the store the day I bought them, I loved them and was like "I found my boot." Fast forward a few months to hunting season and 8 miles a day or so, my heels were wrecked. I tried every lacing technique, 3 different insoles, etc and they aren't the ones...
I had Asolo's back in college. Man were they comfortable for my low volume feet, but I only got probably 150-200 miles out of them before they were shot. Do you know if Asolo has improved this?
I could have shot one in there this last elk season. Younger bear. I didn't see the merit in shooting it as I was quite the hike from the truck and by myself. I had him at 30 yards for a couple minutes.
Joining in on this one. I have low volume feet and a narrow heel. I bought Crispi Nevadas this year that felt awesome when I tried them on in the store, but they ended up wrecking my heels. It made for a tiring, painful elk season. I'm looking at Scarpas for now. Anything else in particular I...
I have low volume, longish feet. I have had a tought time with boot fit over the years. I went and tried on Crispi Nevadas, which felt great in the store, only to be in a world of hurt for the whole season. I tried insoles, lacing techniques, multiple break in periods. They flat out just don't...
I absolutely love my nomad pants. I use them during turkey and Elk season. They are slightly (just slightyl) too warm for those hot early season elk hunts, but I wear them anyway. I'm not sure if they have changed the pant as mine are proabbly 5 years old now, but this is the closest thing on...
I am a HUGE fan of my MR Sawtooth 45 and Beartooth 80. They fit on the same frame, so you can adjust accordingly for what you are doing. I have used the 45 for up to 3 or 4 nights in the backcountry, but it is certainly tight. I probably won't be using it for more than a night moving forward...
