Trichinosis, be honest, have you gotten it?

Been eating a lot of VA black bear the past 5 years. Cook it past 160 and have pressure canned most of it. No issues. Also, no special care in handling or cleaning processing tools. I do not give raw bear meat away….my wife and I like it way too much to do that. I definitely don’t listen to...

Keeping bear meat vs hide only... what do you do?

Not yet. Most of what we kill are best guess 175-250 lbs. I’ve never weighed one and being a deer hunter vs real bear hunter I’m not sure how good of a guesser I am. We did kill one on permit this year that 3 of use could not pick up and load on my hitch haul. The biggest bear killed on our...

    Trad bow equipment choices ?

Second the Selway slide on. Great quiver & even better people. Get a Mountain Muffler bow string. Both the quiver & string will make the bow quieter. Have fun. God Bless.

    Bear Recipes

I haven't found a bad way to prepare bear yet. My wife much prefers it over deer meat. Fortunately (and unfortunately for the deer hunting) the bear population where I hunt has exploded. The landowner at one spot I hunt gets kill permits due to crop damage so I've been able to get the meat...

Keeping bear meat vs hide only... what do you do?

Head and hide are of least concern to me. My family eats and loves Black Bear meat. Here in VA there really isn't that much eatable meat on a bear. The head, hide, fat and heavier bone structure still surprises me on the amount of meat I get versus a nice size Whitetail. God Bless.

    60+ saddle hunters?

Six years to go before I’m in the 60 club but i’ve been saddle hunting the last 3. I can’t imagine another 6 years will make much difference. I stay in shape to hunt and the saddle setup helps me go where others can’t/won’t. It is safe quiet & lightweight. I’m always connected to the tree. I...

If you were just starting out what pack would you buy?

If their frame fits you…..a Kifaru Stryker XL. It’s great for Whitetail, stands, sticks & packing out the kill. I haven’t been back out west since I got mine but I’m sure it will work great for that as well. God Bless.

Accessing Landlocked BLM / Public land by air with paramotor para-glider ??

No input on legalities out west but a guy that works for me does the back-pack style para motor. That style would be tough w/ hunting gear but a neighbor over the hill has the framed tricycle type and it will support the weight of 2 adults. The guy that works for me is very detailed and says...

    Packable puffy pants for Whitetails

I have an old pair of Sitka Kelvin pants I pack in during very cold hunts. Here in VA those are almost always rifle or late MZ. I use them in my saddle and they aren’t overly loud. God Bless.

    Pack frame for saddle hunting

Kifaru Stryker XL is perfect for the way I saddle hunt whitetail here in VA. I’ve posted details on several other threads. I run a Sherman pocket for my one-stick, platform & saddle. God Bless.

I have an original EXO that is too big for me (lost weight) so I started looking for a replacement last year. The Stryker XL checked all of the boxes for my style of hunting here in VA. I saddle hunt deep and pack out whitetails. Love the fact that it is made in the USA. Got it before the K4...
