So ends the story:
I’ll be honest I never got better than 5-6 in groups at 200 (limited by my own skill)
But I was confident with a solid rest out to 200.
and of course he showed at 203 yds.
I’ve been mocking these 1k’s roundly for the reasons stated here….but I just ordered 18 of them.
It’s basically satire w/ good buddy of mine. We are gonna shoot our next TAC season with them (both solidly average shooters). I think I’ll draw multi colored polka dots on mine. Clown shooting...
I ran over the chrono yesterday.
Blackhorn 209/ Fed 209 primer
185 gn .45 Hornady XTP/ Black Sabot
90 gns by volume (66.5gn by weight)
Avg speed- 1959.9
SD- 28.3
ES- 97.8
I’m really embarrassed to say that I thought the bullets were 230 gn. They were the bullets I ran years ago & I didn’t...
Finally got out to try her out.
Turns out, I’m really bad.
First three at 25yds were 2-3in apart.
Moved to 100 yds and tried a couple groups and in both I’d have two impacts 3-5 inches with a wild child 8-10 inches away.
Observations:
1. I was running a bronze brush between shots. Maybe...
My Williams sight set landed.
The rear peep fits perfectly. The front sight will take some fitting.
Looks like I could sand out the inside of the surface that sits on the barrel to get her to fit.
I may just start out testing loads with the rear peep & factory fiber front sight. I don’t hate...
Thanks guys!
I’ve got an order in for 4 different bullets in the 250ish class.
I also broke down and bought a couple 8ozer’s of BH209. So I’ll have 777 & BH to play with.
I’ll get things rounded up & run some load dev. Hopefully I can get close to your results!
I’ve got 3-4 lbs of Triple 7 & will prolly give that a try before shelling out for Blackhorn.
I can’t wrap my head around the cost of Blackhorn! $80+ for 8 oz
Howdy Sliders, I’ve pulled a reasonably exciting muzzleloader whitetail tag. (Details intentionally omitted)
And am dusting off the ole Encore .50 for the hunt.
I’ve bought a Williams Western Precison sight set & will start gathering data to prepare….but
I’m curious what are reasonable...
Its good enough that im going to run it but not perfect.
IMHO, the RRS micro plate is bigger than it needs to be & has a very slight lip around the top of the plate.
So when tighten down it’s touching the coating on the scope….not perfect but she will hunt.
The RRS B22 doesn’t work on the STC.
It’s designed to work with foot of the bigger spotters. The ridge on the rear of the plate digs into the scope body.
I have the RRS micro plate being delivered today.
Howdy Sliders,
I burnt a bonus on a Swaro STC.
But am coming up empty on which Acra plate to put on it.
What are ya’ll using? I looked around on RRS for a boring lil simple plate but could find anything that fit the bill.
Howdy Sliders,
I’ve been kicking around the idea of getting into spring bear baiting (legal in WY) and like the idea of camera trapping my bait sites.
Primary Use: Public land bear baiting, maybe if the bug strikes expanded use for public elk/deer prolly +95% zero cell coverage.
