The .243 Win superlite saga (painless method)

what intrigues me about it is that most of the load dev I have done throughout my life has ended with at or near max load shooting/grouping the best so why not just start there and see. If you see pressure back off. I don’t think by starting at or near max load is going to push such high...

The .243 Win superlite saga (painless method)

Update: ran 20 rounds of factory through the new rifle after work sighting in, then fired the test round at max load listed above with a warm barrel and warm round, No pressure signs observed. Now to load 20 rounds for grouping on the next session.

The .243 Win superlite saga (painless method)

I’m just running the standard “M” mag that came with the rifle, if the chamber was throated properly for heavy for caliber bullets like the 108/109 eldm or 112 match burner, I could see the need for the extra length in the “M+” mag.

The .243 Win superlite saga (painless method)

So here we go. New rifle, new load. Rifle: tikka t3x superlite .243 win 8 twist 22” barrel brass: starline (virgin) Primer: CCI 200 Powder: win staball 6.5 (43gr) 1 round...

    Let’s talk bullets

I don’t eat lungs, ribs, or head cheese so I’m not worried about eating close to the hole.

This, and the match bullets ability to operate across a wide velocity range.

    6mm ARC and 80gr ELD-VT

We have killed a couple deer with a 87 vmax out of a .243 win. Quick kills, no exits, but chest cavity is total soup. The vmax seems to work fine for behind the shoulder shots but not much of a sample size yet. I would assume the 80 eld-vt would be similar in performance but I have no experience...

    Painless load development (mine)

So you are saying drop .5-1 grains on once fired brass based off the chosen load on new brass?

    Painless load development (mine)

So with this style of reloading what should I do with new brass and new rifle. Is firing all 100 rounds of new brass under a moderate load a good idea before starting this painless method? Or just shoot 20 rounds of factory through the rifle and go straight into load dev with the new .243win...

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

I agree, but along the same lines, I don’t believe a bigger bullet/cartridge combo would have resulted in a great outcome had it impacted to the left of where your client hit and impacted the leading edge of the bears right shoulder. I however, do believe that there is probably a large number of...

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

So your saying that bullet was placed properly for that angle/scenario…

What does it take to kill a grizzly?

I’ve only killed a black bear, but I would imagine it takes the same to kill a grizz….. “proper bullet placement” would probably be where I would start. I have yet to come across a critter where a big bullet placed badly was the best solution in the end.

    22cm vs 6cm

I went with a tikka 8 twist .243 win. If you went this route you would have a plethora of factory loads to pick from, but you don’t really obtain the benefits of the 8 twist unless you reload.

    22cm vs 6cm

22 creedmoor is the answer unless you run into legal caliber restrictions in the states/animals you plan on hunting. A guy really can’t go wrong with either though.

Reloading 22 Creedmoor with Superformance powder

He shoots suppressed and the only thing I hear him complain about is how dirty superformance is.

Reloading 22 Creedmoor with Superformance powder

A buddy of mine is using superformance out of his 22-243 middlestead shooting 75 eldm. His velocity is just over 3500 fps.

If you could build any short action coyote gun…

A slow twist 22-250 or 22creed shooting the 45-55 grain bulllets has the potential to be fur friendly. The OP could look up ScenarShooter on 24hourcampfire. That is Pat Sinclair out of Glasgow , MT. He is a state trapper and has killed thousands of coyotes (and much bigger critters) with a 220...

If you could build any short action coyote gun…

Inside 300 yards don’t take much. Tons of options out there. 22 creed stands out the most. Find the range of bullet weights you want to shoot and have the barrel twisted accordingly.
