I love mine although the straps leave a lot to be desired. I actually removed the shoulder straps and hip belt and just strap it to an Exo k3. That way I get the carrying capacity and comfort of the Exo and can still quickly deploy the Pacseat. I barely climb trees anymore- too much fun from the...
My experience is that all works pretty well if you are covering face, minding wind/movement, etc. Optifade subalpine, mossy oak bottomland, 3d leafy/predator suit, real tree edge and natural solids have all worked for me in the mountains here in the eastern US. Some of the trad guys get it done...
Anyone from the east coast willing to chime in on whether a canvas tent would be a wise choice for year round use? My use case is primarily in VA/WVA mountains with and without family. Currently eyeing a sringbar style tent due to speedy setup when juggling toddlers but still not totally sold...
I’ve bought many King’s camo pieces from their XKG line, all for 50% or more of msrp. For the money you cannot beat them.
The transition thermolite mid layer is also a favorite of mine. Their xkg wind defender anorak and bibs are perfect for late season stand hunting. And their zip off merino...
Sierra has Asolo Hunter GVs on clearance right now for $150 - a true steal. If you have normal/narrow feet they are worth giving a shot. Couple threads on here touting their durability.
I use a Guide Gear stove when truck camping and are relatively pleased for the price. Holds heat decently and burns much better than expected…can usually get through the night with only 1 or 2 stokings. $200 all in with accessories.
Also use a DST/bivy and recently picked up a Durston x-mid 2P solid. Haven’t taken into the field yet but setup is easy and I’ve been impressed with the build quality for the price.
I have one for car camping, no complaints at all. Been in 40+ mph winds, rain, snow and down to 10F and it’s held up fine. The large fits 2 cots, stove, wood and gear. Not sure I’d pack it in but works great close to the truck.
