With my custom free bore, and COAL of 3.03” I’m getting 2888 with a 10-shot group (SD of 1fps ES of 2 fps). It does show mild pressure signs however I am not done experimenting with seating depts. I am using 180gr Berger Hybrid Target, also 29” Brux MTU profile barrel.
I ended up going with the 6.5-7 PRC, with a custom free-bore to accommodate 180gr Berger VLDs. I have a COAL of 3.03", shoots well with h1000 and CCI 34.
I am looking to build a 7 Saum, I've been collecting whatever I can find brass wise. After 8 months ended up with 400 pieces of AGD brass w/...
Thanks for this information, I'm not in a rush for purchase brass but that is curial information. Knowing that ADG produces brass every 6 months is amazing.
If I actually go 7 PRC, I'll definitely make a post about it. I want to see how far I can experiment with seating depths.
But for now, until Laupa makes brass for them I'll be watching closely to other people's results.
Another reason why I'm looking for something that can push a 180gr bullets at about 2900fps is that I want it to cut through winds. I've experimented with 6.5 CM reloads with a 127gr Barnes OTM bullets, and for area where I do my LR shooting (mountain areas) it seems to just get taken away by...
7 PRC it is, lets see how it ends up. If it ends up as a disappointment I might just look at 7mm-300 WM. There's just too much stuff that is up in the water right now for the 7 PRC, once lapua starts making brass for it that just might make me switch over.
I'm all over the place right now, I'll...
I think I am going to settle on the .280 AI. I wonder if .280 AI is capable of pushing a Berger 180gr Hybrid Target, or a 183gr SMK to 2900fps~ with a 28-30" barrel. I do not know if I am asking too much/if that is too HOT for the .280 AI. I am really planning on running 180-185gr bullets to...
My mistake, I was trying to say that the TIKKA T3x "action" itself is just 1 SKU and is locked to place by their bolt stop. Trim the bolt stop (any maybe open the bolt face) and you can convert to long action.
For example, .243 Win to 7 SAUM. Open up the bolt face, shim the extractor with paper...
Heres a video I've seen West Desert Shooter do it on youtube! He actually just trimmed the bolt stop and trimmed the bolt face, because it is a SAKO style action. You can actually just trim face a bit, and shim the extractor.
Seems to be a SAKO thing (spring loaded), which is a major plus.
I 100% agree with you, maybe I am looking too much into it. Analysis paralysis maybe? But I am having a blast looking and researching brass and bullet selections! I already ordered the press and scales, so I am just deciding on my final caliber! I've even purchased a reloading manual, I be sure...
Sounds kinda nice and spicy. Lets see if I can source some .284 Win brass in Canada! Gotta do some more research on it. Right now seems to be hat 7mm-6.5 PRC and the Sherman wildcats are my top choices.
I've done some research, good thing about Tikka T3x's are that Tikka them selves want to limit the amount of SKUs that they have. Their bolt faces are all compatible with different calibers, you just have to "shim" them into the desired spec.
Something goes for the action, It is all the same...
I agree, 7 SAUM brass right now is unobtainium sadly. Those Shermans are also a good option but I am looking at $220 USD (100 brass) before shipping, and importation fees.... Will probably spend closer to $400usd for all of those combined with the reamer rental. I might just be stuck with...
What's the performance expectations for at 28" barrel?
What are your thoughts on a 28 nosler? It seems to be easy to find nosler brass up here in Canada.
