The installation wasn’t bad at all, it’s more the fact that the riser piece slides on the stock and you have to move it back. Other than that, it’s great!
I can’t remember for sure, I think it was ELD-X as that’s what he loads in everything for hunting, but with the ammo/component shortages, he’s shooting the Sig Elite Hunter, and those are working well
A buddy of mine shot a Whitetail at 697 with a 6mm Creedmoor Savage 110 Tactical. He said that it was just a pin hole at that distance, but punctured both lungs and and it was found within 100 yards. He was using pretty hot hand loads at that point.
I’ve witnessed it drop deer like a sack of...
12x is about all I go to for hunting. Sometimes I’ll crank it up for target identification, but bring it back down 10-12x for shooting. It’s a Vortex Strike Eagle 5-25x56 on my rifle, so I stay just below halfway of the magnification, but keep the reticle big enough to still be useable
Federal makes, or made at least, a 200gr terminal ascent that I shot a Whitetail with last year. It performed well, and the deer died within 25 yards-ish.
That said, I switched to the Norma Bondstrike this year, and my Tikka loves it, and it’s available. I had an average velocity of 3024fps...
I’ve got a pair of the Cabela’s Trans-Alaskan PAC boots, and they are legit. My feet freeze, and I picked these up for ice fishing, and decided to try them for my still hunts deer hunting. They worked great, but don’t plan on walking anywhere in them, they’re the gommiest friggin things ever...
Central/Northern Maine
Pros-very quiet, and not a lot of people. I can shoot off my porch, and hunt within a 5 minute drive.
Not a huge deer population compared to other states in the country, but we grow deer big. Not all antlers, but body size. Probably 7-10% of deer harvested dress out...
The worst part of the procedure is the needles they use to numb up the boys. Other than that, it’s a walk in the park, other than the smell of them burning the ends of the tubes. Perhaps a shower after work before the operation might’ve helped that!
The worst part is the first week post-op...
I hunted any chance I could during the season in Maine this year. My wife was totally fine with it, even with a 10 month old at home. She knows it’s my favorite time of the year. Probably 100-120 hours out over 4 weeks
