Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

Thanks for the heads up--that is a good price. If only the FOV was higher. The Viper HD 10x42 is 317ft. That's just a hair above the FOV in my Nikon 9x25. After experiencing 394 ft. in the Svbony SV202, I think I'm spoiled!

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

Thanks for letting me know. My sister and her husband live in Syosset, which is like 15 mins from Camera Land, so I'm going to make a point of swinging by there. Would be great to test out a few binos to get a better idea of the feel & function of a few candidates. Looks like this store has...

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

There are many great reviews on the BD-II series by Kowa. Very respectable. The Backwoods Pursuit negative kind of concerned me, "Below average image resolution," but I think it was concerning edge-to-edge clarity in some scenarios. But the BP test was very confined to a specific usage and...

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

$400 is a very good price. The going price these days is $599. Pre-holiday and pre-BF/CM, there was a deal for them at $499. I was pondering it and almost pulled the trigger when... like a sweeping wind, every single site I'd been looking at with that price dropped the deal. I'd never seen...

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

OK, you guys are probably going to roll your eyes on me for this, but I cheated... and dove down to a lower price point. For now, anyway. Some of you may have seen the Svbony brand review by Neil English. He has tested and reviewed many binoculars. He was really blown away by the SV202. And he...

Very nice, Mike! I had looked at the Meopro HD but they were out of my price range unless at a good discount. You're lucky to have nabbed that 30% off! Where did you find that deal?

Probably not going to get the Nikon Monarch M7. Looking at a few other possibilities, like the Hawke Frontier ED-X.

    Athlon Cronus g2 10x42 vs maven b1.2 10x42

^ Thanks for sharing that. Yeah, I've seen some people mention that too, not great for low light conditions, but otherwise full daytime is awesome.

For anyone dealing with pesky lens caps on their binos

I have an old pair of Simmons 7x42 binoculars that, amazingly enough, still have the original lens caps... despite them being terrible at staying on (no securing mechanism). The eyepiece ones aren't bad, but the objective lens ones are terrible. I checked around and found a really good deal on...

    Extended car warranty

I agree that extended warranties are better when from the factory. 3rd party? I don't trust them. Most of them insert special language in the contract that surprisingly neuters a lot of coverage you'd expect you should get. I saw in one case that mandated regular servicing at the OEM mandated...

    Leupold Wind River 10X42

That's the kicker that makes selecting binos so difficult. One man's edge-to-edge clarity is an eyesore, while negligible for the next man. The best reviewer I've seen so far has been Optica Exotica, because he has the camera gear to actually do very good video recordings of what you see...

    Leupold Wind River 10X42

Your list is very similar to mine. I own some lower tier Nikon binos that I really like. So my first look was at the ProStaff range, which quickly switched up to the Monarchs. I was going to go with the M5, but the M7 tugged at me. Still, my blood wasn't ready for the price. I nearly pulled the...

    Warranty

It depends upon the price point. If I'm investing in binoculars over $400, I'm going to want a lifetime warranty. A 10 year warranty? That's not very good, if you're talking over $400. Binoculars can easily last decades (even a lifetime) if well cared for. But things can go wrong. There is...

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

I've gone back & forth a few times and I've chased down a few models I hadn't mentioned on the odd chance of finding a "sleeper." But frankly, I keep coming back to the Leupold BX-4 and the Monarch M7 as the top 2 contenders. The cheapest I've seen the BX-4's were $450 ($499 sale plus coupon...

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

FWIW, to add... and this is my layman's opinion here... Looking at a group of 10 binos in a given price bracket, it's unfair to go sequentially through the whole list and size up characteristics like this. Because of human subjectivity, the previous bino characteristics are going to influence...

Would like some opinions on 10x42 binoculars I'm considering, $500 (soft) limit

From what I was gathering it was the edge-to-edge clarity and chromatic aberration that had Backwoods Pursuit lowering their opinion of the Kowa BD-II XD's. Their overall opinion, "Below average image resolution." They did say that in the center sweet spot things looked good, though. If this...

Do you mean Maven C3 vs. Monarch M7? They do offer a 10x50 that looks appealing. Bigger and heavier, but I'm not planning to do long excursions with these.

    Comfortable Office Chair

I second this. You know how in the optics field where the veterans always say "don't buy cheap--make the investment in higher end now and you'll thank me in the future"? You can go further up the pricing tier if you delve into used. A Herman Miller Aeron chair is seriously expensive brand new...
