Also, if you are not dead set on Franchi, I would lean towards another inertia driven gun. I own a Beretta A400 for clays and a Franchi for waterfowl. Sure you have reduced recoil with the gas guns, but man do they take time to get clean. the inertia guns take very little time to clean compared...
I did put in for the draw but my expectations are low since this is my first year applying. Looks like i might have to change my game plan, lighten the load to the neccessites, and search for elk before i even think about setting up a camp.
This will be my first experience getting an elk is...
Both rifles are brand new in box. Decided to go a different route and no longer need these. Willing to ship if buyer covers fees.
Weatherby Badlands 6.5CM $750
Weatherby High Country 6.5PRC $950
Would be willing to trade for O/U 20/12GA. Prefereably Beretta 686 or Browning 325/425/525
Thanks, I have onX. I hunted last year in CA for mule deer. First time experience elevation and walking in search for life.
Do you deal with a lot of thick brush or is it more open forest?
That is slightly discouraging but thanks for the reply. I would prefer not to see anyone even if that means less chance of taking a big bull, but seems like no matter where in Colorado you will run into people.
Have you hunted 3rd rifle season? This might be another option for me.
Did the franchi have shims installed? You could look at the shorter female version. I have a Affinity 3 since they first came out. It was the first gun i could afford as a college student. The gun probbably had 2000 rounds of clay shooting prior to any birds. The gun has performed flawlessly...
If you have not introduced her to gun fire, i would start with 12ga just primed hull. No powder, then try stubby .22. You can find them relatively cheap on LCS. then move to field trial rounds. Also do it with live birds if possible.
Has anyone used the US Hovr Boots? How were they on long hikes and did they hold up.
I know Crispi and Kennetrek would be ideal, but I have a chance to get the Hovrs for around $100, compared to $400 for the others.
In between jobs I have about 2 weeks this September and looking to do an OTC Archery trip in Colorado. This will be my first elk trip and first time hunting Colorado. If time permits I plan to scout before the season, but that is unknown at this time.
Besides finding water source big or small...
This is my first year applying as well. I put in for a draw with zero points. If i draw a spot great, if not I plan to do an OTC hunt at some point. Why wait until your points are maxed? Get out there and give it a go, who knows you may find a trophy elk with an OTC tag. You wouldn't be the...
Been searchign this site for the past year and finally decided to sign up. I am active duty Navy stationed in San Diego. Started hunting when I got back from deployment last year here in San Diego. I have been overseas for the last sixe years and originally from NJ. Looking forward to learning...
