First elk hunt
Hardest thing to grasp as a new hunter is that the poop needs to be very very fresh. Not 2 days old. And the area needs to smell like elk. Or you need to have eyes on elk. Otherwise keep looking. -

Suppressed vs Non-Suppressed Hunting
It’s just one of those things that once you go suppressed, you don’t go back. Has anybody shot suppressed for a season or two and said it’s not worth it? That’s kinda the test. -

How far will a herd go when they get spooked
Probably depends on what cover they have around, but I see them go down basin 1/2 mile into adjacent thick cover. It’s all about pressure. They’ll go where people stop messing with them. Here it less distance than expected. -

I’m amazed at how simple supply demand goes unnoticed in the convo from CPW. Charge more and reduce tags. Revenue stays same, quality goes up. How is CPW gonna fill the rev gap, is an easy answer. NRs can hunt deer at home for cheap. #huntlocal -

Scouting a new area this year?
I ID spots online, hang cameras and check out movement. Even though they won’t be there during season, I like to see the patterns. It’s cool to find spots and get validated. -

2024 Wyoming elk draw trends General
This is true. States under value what people would pay. Think about the truck/fuel/gear/gun etc. and it’s so much higher cost than the actual thing you need which is the tag. Not saying I want to pay that price but the money I see people drop on non-essentials makes me think the tags price can... -

Tripod or new binoculars?
If you can’t get top glass, get a good light tripod, like a carbon Slik. Hunt with your current glass this year. That way, once you can afford the new glass, you have a pretty sweet setup. -
