    Suppressor wait times

Decided to give the individual route a go. Submitted 3/14 Approved 3/19 I have another one waiting approval that I did via my trust. Submitted that one 2/5, so we’ll see how long it ends up taking. May pick up one or two more, that wait time is wild.

    Help Me Archery Experts

I settled on a grain weight for my broadheads (in my case 100gr) and then tinkered with insert/component weights instead of spending more money on broadheads. I don't glue inserts in permanently anymore though, I use blue glue and glue the broadhead and insert into the arrow as one piece. I've...

    Rokslide special target ammo?

I’ve had good experiences with the AAC 77gr OTM from PSA. It’s their in-house SMK equivalent and has been going for $.55-.65 cpr depending on if you catch it as a Daily Deal or not. Waiting on the 75gr Black Tip to come back into stock, want to give that a try as well. ETA: I haven’t tried...

For Those Of You Who've Been To Total Archery Challenge (TAC)

Ah, tracking now. I used some Victory glue-in target points for mine, but as long as the weight is consistent (check on a grain scale) you’re fine. One thing I did just think of, I would strongly recommend using nock bushings or similar component. My nock bushings saved my arrows a few times...

For Those Of You Who've Been To Total Archery Challenge (TAC)

Not sure what you mean by worrying about practice tips, but I also have a separate set of arrows that I shoot for 3D throughout the spring/summer. I built some that are ~360 grains with tiny Bohning Air vanes to get as much clearance and stretch my sight tape out as far as I could. There's...

    “Backfire” hunting challenge fail

If the coating isn’t stripped off your BCG, it isn’t clean enough. My cleaning “regimen” for my personal stuff is “dump some more lube on it”.

    “Backfire” hunting challenge fail

Military “marksmanship” as a whole is pretty depressing, honestly. There’s more interest in just getting people through a qual than spending time really learning how to shoot. I’m AF, and it’s particularly true there. Most career fields don’t have a continuous weapon qual requirement and will...

    1/2 ton GMC

That’s interesting that you’re getting 17 highway, I regularly get 23-24 (highway) with mine. Major difference is that mine is an X31 SLT instead of the AT4, so it doesn’t have the lift and has less aggressive tires.

    DC/Virginia area Question

The commute from DC to huntable areas is a good point. When I moved back I was in DC for a few months until we found a place in NoVa. I was hunting Belvoir and in early fall/pre-time change I wasn’t getting home from a PM hunt until 9pm or later between how late it got dark and the traffic...

    DC/Virginia area Question

In Alexandria now, it’s not bad. Way more crowded than I’ll ever be okay with, but I knew moving back here that I’d be commuting into DC during the second year of this assignment so didn’t want to go too far out. I’m moving again in June, but in the (likely) event that I get another assignment...

    DC/Virginia area Question

I’m in NoVa, have now lived here for just shy of a combined 4 years over two assignments. I’d say the hunting is generally decent. Like tpicou mentioned, much of the area is under some pretty loose limits on whitetails to control the herd (which is wildly overpopulated). Depending on the...

    Outdoors Adventure in Poland?

I've probably spent a cumulative year in Poland by now, it's one of my favorite countries. All my time there has been for work and I couldn't normally break away to do outdoor stuff further from where I was working, but some of my guys got out and hiked a few of the national parks there and had...

    First Lite 2024 Western Offerings

The Yuma shirt looks interesting, moving to AL this summer and am working on my hot/warm weather setup. Originally was going to go with the Sitka Equinox Guard hoody, but lots more solid color options from FL.

    backpack choice for saddle hunting

I think you’re going to like it. I picked one up about halfway through this past season and it turned into my go-to. I have a MR Popup 38 that I had been using, and while I like that pack, the Platow is just easier to use for hauling platform/stand and sticks around, particularly when you’re...

    Maven RS1.2 2.5-15x44 new model

This thread had me very intrigued, but I wanted to see how usable the reticle was at 2.5x for myself before I snagged one. Got to handle it today at the GAOS and decided I was a fan so I decided right there to jump on the bandwagon and order one. The MIL versions were OOS at the show but they...

    Arrow components

I kept the half outs about two weeks when I first changed to RIP TKOs a couple years ago. Make getting arrows out of the target a pain and I had some break that I don’t think would have broken with a HIT. Now mine are set up like so: - IW 50gr insert - IW 10gr TI collar - 100gr FP or 100gr SBL...
