I ended up getting a regular .308 tikka t3x lite stainless that had the barrel cut down to 18.5” and threaded. Threw a VX5HD 3-15x, I love it. It a shame Tikka doesn’t sell a rifle like that from the factory. 308 doesn’t need a long barrel.
FYI: ShipMyGun lets you ship directly to a buyer’s FFL for $30-40 in most cases. Just Bought one from another member and it was $35 from Minnesota to CA.
Anyone have the SC direct thread mount/knows how much it weighs?
Curious if it’s worth getting over the DD direct thread mount (1oz I believe)
Also - Is there much downside to running a 30 cal end cap with a smaller caliber like .223? (Is it worth getting a 30 cal flat end cap and a .223 flat...
Been stated here before, Glock 29SF/Gen4/Gen5. Works on people, bears, and can be concealed easily. Real comfortable to shoot (pinky extension on 10rd magazines), easy to manage.
If you're open carrying or using at home, 15 round magazines work too with the slide on grip extensions.
Hmm. I would really like stainless. 7RM seems like a bit of a compromise between 308 and 300WM? Not as bad recoil as 300WM, but gets me out to 500 yards or so still staying 1500 ft lbs.
With a limbsaver and hopefully a suppressor most of the time 7mm rem mag seems fine. I’m a pretty stout/built...
Yeah I’ve been looking at the rough tech.
Seems like a 300 WM might might more sense as a hunting rifle to compliment the 308 AR. Would use the 300 WM for longer hunts, backcountry, and bigger game. 308 would pull deer/antelope and shorter range hunting.
when I hunt out of state, it’ll...
Your hearing aids when you’re 70 will be a lot more expensive than these if you’re out shooting any 30 cal guns without hear protection, braked or unbraked. Concussion and transmission through face bones is still a consideration, although much more so for someone standing to your side than the...
I think shooting any rifle that’s not suppressed without ear pro is foolish if you want to keep your hearing.
Particularly with the electronic ear plug and muff options available that allow you to still hear normal sounds, conversations, twigs snapping, animals, etc (can actually amplify these...
So last year I went down a bit of a rabbit hole building a super lite 308 AR style rifle.
2A Arms Xanthos Receiver set, JP LMOS BCG and Buffer setup, Faxon 18” Pencil Barrel, and Brigand Arms Noax Carbon handguard are the highlights. Shoots really well, and the JP LMOS system is sweet (quite...

Pretty settled on 3-15 VX5HD.
Looking at the NF NXS and Swarovski Z5i as well, still in the price range. Seems like NXS is more reliable but might be finicky getting it to focus and setting parallax. Swaro might have a bit better glass, but about same reliability as the Leupold?
Any other...
No cans allowed in commiefornia sadly. Brake will just make the short barrel even louder. Recoil shouldn’t be too bad on the AR with the JP SCS, LMOS BCG, and adjustable gas block.
It is interesting how a few decisions can really affect the weight of the rifle. If I switched to:
16” barrel instead of 18” (-3.5 oz)
No flash hider (- 2 Oz)
VX3HD instead of VX5HD (-5 oz)
No Bipod (- 8 oz)
That’s 1lb 2.5 oz difference in weight right there. Or 10.5 oz not including the bipod
I looked through them both a lot more. In low light, the difference (improvement) in the VX5 became more apparent the longer I tested them. Particularly noticeable was the better eyebox and how it was easier and quicker it was to get the target sighted and in focus. So I think I’ve come full...
So I bought both the VX3HD 3.5-10x, and the VX5HD 3-15x. Deciding on which one to return. I’ve been able to look through them a decent amount.
VX5 has a more forgiving eye-box it seems. Little less picky about exact eye placement to get a sharp image. Not a ton better than the VX3, but a...
