Looks like it worked perfectly, I wouldn't argue against that performance. It seems like really mixed reviews and depends on the conditions, caliber used etcetera.
Unfortunately I only ever shoot a couple of animals each year so it's tough to get data quickly. I am going to try the Terminal...
Well, I'm sure that's true, of the dozens of deer I have seen shot and shot myself they have all died within yards of being shot. That being said I have heard friends accounts of tracking deer for miles but I suspect they were just poorly shot.
Sounds to me like you don't subscribe to the whole...
Can't argue about availability, I do see Hornady on just about everyone's shelvs for sale. Not so much the case with Nosler, Federal, Norma, Berger or whomever eld you may choose.
To be honest I've never seen a deer run more than 50 yards when hit with any bullet including the old fashioned remington corelokt or federal fusions or whatever expanding bullet.
Is high bc and acuracy the main reason most of you like the ELD-X so much?
I have personally never lost an animal after a well placed shot from any bullet...
Other than a Prarie dog that I shot at 75 yards with a 22-250.. he disappeared.. to this day I don't know where he went.. just poof and he was gone!
I think 6.5 creed is ideal for this bullet since it already has lower muzzle velocities. I would think the creedmoor with this bullet would be an excellent match for deer sized game.
I couldn't have said it better myself, I am no longer using eldx bullets in my 300 I switched to terminal ascent bullets.
I still shoot eldx in my 6.5 prc for now but I might make the switch to terminal ascent with them as well if they shoot well for me.
Hornady is aware of the cup and core separation issues. If this wasn't an occasional problem they wouldn't have published this.
Seth Swerczek Hornadys podcast host has even talked of this a time or 2 in which he said that Hornady sells better bullets for some of these situations and that no...
This has been my experience as well. I hunt for meat as well for the challenge and enjoyment of it. I have yet to see an accubond, partition, federal fusion or any of the like. My experience is the eldx seems to perform like a varmit bullet. Don't get me wrong "I know the eldx is not a varmit...
You suppose so? The shoulder and ribs are 2 bone masses and several muscle masses before it has a chance to damage life systems. The neck is a few inches of meat then a bone with nerves in the middle, a bullet passing even within an inch of the spine is likely going to put the lights out.
Yes, unfortunately my plan was to bring my 6.5 prc on all deer hunts but the last few years we have been going to Montegue with brown bear tags as well.. kinda leave a guy in a what to do scenario 🤷♂️
Keep in mind a neck shot is very different from a shoulder shot..
Spine is instant death
Shoulder shot has to break the shoulder several inches of meat and then some ribs before it gets into the good stuff.
Just some food for thought.
