Is hunting still THAT FUN anymore?

I haven't killed a big game animal in 3 years. I have had plenty of opportunity. I've seen more game than you could shake a stick at. I'm actually happier with my hunting experiences over the past couple seasons than I've ever been before. We are the masters of our own destiny, and nobody...

How long does it take to field dress a mule deer?

Gutting a deer shouldn't take more than 5 minutes - I've never understood the appeal of the gutless method as it leaves all the tasty bits inside. Heart and liver are awesome.

    longest antelope pack out?

My one and only antelope died about 20 feet off the gravel road, and less than a mile from the house. You can see the farm yard in the background. I literally just went for a walk from the farm with my muzzleloader and called my Dad to bring a pickup truck when it was done because I didn't want...

How do you justify sheep hunting?

I'm lucky that I can buy an over the counter tag, drive an hour into the mountains, hike for another couple and start seeing sheep. Unfortunately, it's a rare occurrence to see a legal ram in these areas. So for me, its easy to justify. But I do find it hard to justify these more expensive...

    How much ammo?

My buddy and I were discussing how much ammo to bring on a hike when we're hunting. I usually bring a half box and have never needed more than 1 or 2. One time I did go through a couple more when I took a good fall and wanted to make sure my rifle was still hitting where it was supposed to...

Do you use your Multi tool

I use mine to add about a half pound of weight to the bottom of my pack. I have yet to actually use it in the mountains, despite carrying it around for a few years.

When do you switch from Spray to Gun ??

We don't have the option to carry a sidearm here in Canada. I rarely bring the spray if I have an option to carry a rifle. The key is making sure that the rifle is always accessible and ready to go.

How much trimming before you grind your burger?

Silverskin will not taint the flavor - that typically comes from fat. You can remove a lot of it through separating muscle groups and using a good, sharp, flexible knife - I personally use a Havalon. You can grind the lower leg / neck pieces finer than the rest of the ground and it helps make...

What Would you buy 6.5 creedmoor or 6.5 prc- strictly for white tails In the south-600 -700 yds shots tops

The CM doesn't have a lot of extra energy at that range; shot placement is going to be the most influential part of the whole equation. While it can be done with the CM, I feel the PRC is a better choice for these longer range shots if one is insistent on taking them.

    Greetings from Alberta, Canada

I've lived in western Canada all my life, and am starting to push hard into hunting in the foothills and mountains. Being from the prairies, this is a whole new world to me. I've got my horse trained up to pack so I can get into (and out of) some pretty remote places. I'm no stranger to...
