I couldn't agree more with the suppressing and a high quality recoil pad. I have a light weight 416 remington suppressed with recoil pad and it is tolerable at under 7 pounds (grizzly mountain hunt).
I've hunted some burn areas a few years after burns in Idaho and had good luck Bear hunting (and mushrooms). It actually made it a little easier from the aspect that it was easier to see more than fifty feet.
Looks like a great option - amazing the quality and variety of gear being produced. Very happy with my frontier pack (barney pack - 7800), but I too have started the search for a smaller pack in that 4000 range.
10000 is well worth it for a good experience. I've been on several guided hunts and only once did I have an outfitter and guide that didn't do an exceptional job - but that one hunt was very expensive and was a terrible experience. The best outfitter I had was in Idaho chasing Cats, we didn't...
I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 with cummings and it was leaking antifreeze last year. It was a small crack on a hose that was only detected after they hooked something up that blew air into the lines so they could spot the leak. It was a small leak, but freeked me out when I was 6 hours from...
I have a 2014 2500 Dodge BigHorn with a diesel engine and it doesn't matter what trailer I'm towing (camper, cargo trailer or 18 car trailer with my tractor on it) I average 14-16 mpg on the highway (not all that different than driving around town). On the highway with no trailer 20-22 mpg.
In my experience, once you are more than a mile from where vehicles are permitted you rarely run into others (haven't hunted in CO yet, but I suspect that is the same out there). The further from the road you go (and up) the less you need to worry about others.
I have a camper and use it maybe half of the time. I like to drive to Northern Idaho to go Bear Hunting and for the additional cost (and time) of towing a trailer I could just stay in a lodge (only took it once that far)- close to a 20 hour drive. For the six hour drive to go deer hunting I've...
I've only done it once and as was mentioned earlier, I stripped the meet into very small strips and was fortunate not to miss any pellets. It doubled the time (at least) but it was worth it as I didn't want to damage my grinder or parts of it (also didn't want a pellet in the sausage). The...
