This is the best advice yet. Turkeys are turkeys. Yeah pressure can move them around or shut them up sometimes, but I hunt turkeys the same general way no matter where I’m hunting. Finding birds is generally the hardest part in my opinion. Once you find one, he’s just like any other turkey...
If you can. Learn to owl hoot with your voice. If not, I’m a big fan of my woodhaven owl call. I’ve had great luck making birds gobble that wouldn’t answer my dad and brother voice hooting

I haven’t hunted New Mexico yet but I have chased Merriams a few times. For the most part they are just as vocal as Rios but in my experience they seem to gobble at you without coming more often than Rios do. Have hunted some mountain merriams but not a lot. My basic tactic is find good looking...
My brother shoots a 301T with the factory choke and it is pretty wicked. I’ve always liked the idea of setting up an o/u. If you decide to go that route and want a red dot check out meadow creek mounts. They’re awesome

Sorry I just re read I see you’re shooting a 20. What gun are you shooting? I’ll check the old gobbler forum if you’d like and see if I can find pattern pictures for you

I shoot a 20 gauge. I’m currently shooting a .560 which is still pretty tight but with my setup it gives me enough forgiveness that I’m okay with it. I also use a red dot which helps a lot. If I was setting up a new gun I’d go .575. If you’re shooting a 12 that’s different obviously

Honestly if you are shooting tss I’d go a little more open. The small shot will get tight enough patterns out to 50+ pretty easy. You don’t need the tightest pattern in the world to have good 20 and 50 patterns

I’d recommend joining a turkey forum. Old gobbler or gobbler nation and getting with some of the makers on the site. Any would make a great long lasting call. I’m not a big pot call guy so I can’t really help with specifics

I finished my slam last year in Florida on some public. Actually killed 3 of the 4 last year alone but didn’t make a trip to finish out the slam. It’s cool I guess but mostly I just like to hunt turkeys as much as possible. It was cool to kill my Osceola but Florida public land is truly not very...
If you stay away from zone 4 you should have a pretty good chance of drawing. Not sure where you are planning to deer hunt

I’m back home now. I loved the sleep I got in the hammock. I used a hammock sleeping pad made by klymit and it worked great. I slept with my clothes on when it got down to about 30 degrees but I never had an issue with getting cold. I’m normally a side or stomach sleeper but in the hammock I...
Still no bugling action for me in north colorado. Bulls on camera hitting wallows are all solo. Some coming in silent to the calls. Hoping this weather gets things cranked up

Yes sir I’m actually out here now. Did basically a base camp set up 1.5 miles from the truck but I’m loving the sleep I get in the hammock. If I was hunting with camp on my back every day I would probably try more of an ultralight set up but it’s great for this
