I'm heading to Big Island this Sunday and plan to hunt quite a bit. I've been there many times and bagged some sheep and goats. But never a pig.
I will be staying in Waikoloa village and planning to hunt pigs in Unit B on the NW or SW of the island. From scouring onx and google maps I came...
I've just bought Outdoor Research Ferrosi pants. The closest fit to the old Prana Zion IMO. They are a bit more stretchy and a tad lighter. They are on sale now on their website.
Public land hunt was not great. Limited access and only hog and goat sign in the units open now.
Private land hunt with a guide was amazing. Very cool to see hundreds of deer.
I will be on Molokai next week. Plan to hunt Unit A and B. Has anyone hunted these units? I'd be curious to hear your impressions and any tips you might have. I also quite puzzled about the access to the units. Per OnX maps, the public land on those units is surrounded by private. Not sure how...
I did not hunt at all. It was a last minute trip. I did not have a chance to get the permits. Most of them needed to be requested well in advance. Very good that you have yours.
I wanted to at least try knife and dogs hog hunt. I talked to Sonny from Hook You Up Outfitters. He sounded like nice...
Thanks for the notification! I am curious too why they change the hunting season every single year. Wasn't the application period in the fall months?
The end of the next year season is pretty much the peak of the rut. This year they give you 2 free doe tags if you buy 3 tags. The statements...
At the moment I'm thinking of buying 3 deer tags and 1 ewe tag that comes with 1 non-typical ram tag. I'll see how the hunt goes. But that's already a lot of tags.
Thanks for the pointers. We are planning to do a few hikes for sure. Lilikoi Beer sounds great. I will need to give it a try. We visited the botanical garden West of Poipu in out last trip to Kauai. It was very pretty.
Thank you guys for the responses. I took care of the license a while ago. I sent a copy of my hunter safety card to Hawaii DLNR and got an exemption number. Now I can just buy a license online.
Yeah, Kalaulau trail needs permit to Haena State park. The permits are issued 30 days in advance and...
I'm heading to Kauai shortly. Would love to hear some general advice on where to hunt hogs and goats with a rifle. I've found that Na Pali coast is good but it's archery only. Comparing to Big Island and Maui, Kauai seems to be more restrictive having only Sat and open for hunting. Many units...
Got you. Thanks for your feedback.
This year they offer 2 free doe tags with a purchase of 3 allowed tags. I'm guessing they have more deer than they need. This actually makes sense given that the hunting was messed up for at least one year due to covid. I cannot wait until September.
Per hunt announcement letter, "purchasing of tags may be available online requiring hunters to only sign Pūlama Lānaʻi waiver forms at the check station". It seems that it can be done online.
An hour of wait time is not too bad. May just go that route.
Did they require you to fill two doe...
Do you guys buy tags online or in person? I am incline to buy in person as it saves a service fee and I have to check in at the ranger station prior the hunt anyway. Is buying the tags online saving me any time during the check in? The ranger station may be very crowded as all the hunters will...
