KUIU Bino Harness Bear Spray Holster

Big thanks to the OP on this. I have a Marsupial magnet bino pouch that interferes with my compass which has been driving me crazy. I have been looking for something to switch to KUIU but want to keep my marsupial bear spay holster so this is the puzzle piece I have been looking for.

Pics of animals you weren't hunting

This reminds me of the infamous Wild West Camel story. In the 1800s US Army thought camels would make good pack animals for the South West so they shipped a bunch in from the Middle East. They ended up causing problems so a lot were auctioned off and many escaped. Supposedly they trampled crops...

To stop thief from getting your guns in truck

I remember going out to my grandma's property in Nebraska a few years ago and we like to shoot out there. I brought about 5 rifles and shotguns in soft cases to play around with and we had to stay at a random hotel. There was no way I was leaving the guns in the car an I ended up loading up one...

    Marsupial Gear Bino Harness-Magnet Issues?

Jumping in on this thread. I recently got the marsupial bino harness with the magnets and it affects my analog compass considerably. If I hold the compass as low as I can it seems to be accurate but its enough of an issue that I will probably swap for the non-magnet version.

When do you hood when layering?

In looking up hunting layering systems I noticed that pretty much every level of layering from base to mid to jacket to rain gear has hooded and non-hooded options. That raises the question of what layers do you typically get with a hood? It gets uncomfortable stacking hoods on one hand but you...

    Rain Gear layer

I usually recommend sizing up for rain gear. Usually when it rains the temps drop and you are going to want a mid layer underneath. Your rain gear is also you last line of defense and you want it to be able to fit over whatever other jackets you have.

    Kuiu Pant Sizing

I am about the same as you. I wear a 32x32 jean and ordered some attack pants a few weeks ago. I went with their 34 waist and short inseam. The waist is a little loose but allows for layering and with a belt its not a problem. The pant length is about perfect.

    sleeping bag

I used a Kelty 20 deg bag last fall elk hunting with an inflatable mattress and pad and was freezing even with a down jacket on at around 30 deg at night. I recently got the Mountain Hardwear Bishop Pass 0F bag for next season. I have not been able to test it in the cold yet but my initial...

Disregard politics or people what’s the worst state to live in?

Driving through West Kansas is rough. You know its bad when you get way too excited for this place:

    Ruck training

I got a 50lb bag of sand and have been going around my neighborhood at night after I get my kids to bed. I am up to about 1.8 miles now averaging about 3 mph. Its strangely relaxing actually.

    Best Elastic Draw Trainer

I think I am going to follow the advice here to just shoot my bow. I work from home and have a foam target I usually keep in the basement but I can probably move it into my office and take some shots during the day. I have 2 daughters so my time is limited so anything that helps save a few min.

Wierd, unusual or funny wildlife pics you have taken.

Here is a jumping spider eating a wasp. I came across him going into my barn and ran as fast as I could back into my house and thank God I still had the macro lens still on my DSLR. I also got a shot of two Daddy Longlegs fighting:

    Rain Gear...Which one?

I have the Marmot Precip rain jacket and its been my GoTo for Colorado hiking and hunting. You must have gone out when we did last year because it rained pretty good for about 2 days. The Marmot jacket has pit zips too which are essential for active hunting. Marmot also makes Precip pants that...

Fatigue / Pain Management on long hunts

Another +1 for the foam roller. It is a game changer if you want to hike day after day. Another trick I learned back in the day is to roll out your legs then lie on your back with your feet up against a wall for 20 min. Your feet will feel tingly eventually like they are falling asleep then...

    Best Elastic Draw Trainer

I am currently using a standard elastic trainer for working out my back muscles for my draw but I have to rig it in a way that is uncomfortable and causing the elastic band to wear in places... It will probably snap into my face sometime in the near future. Needless to say, I am looking for a...

    Bino Harness

Rokslide actually did a comprehensive Test/Review about a month ago. They really put the harnesses though the paces too. Based on the comments here and the video I think I am going to pull the trigger on the Marsupial Enclosed holster.

    Shotgun Training

Get some snap cap shells and find an open room or your garage. Have your wife or a buddy come over and use a laser pointer to simulate a clay travelling in a straight line vs curved etc. This will help train your eyes and muscle memory. I found the best way is to lock onto the clay with your...

Anyone try the new KUIU Boonie?

Thanks for the heads up on the hat and it makes sense. Sometimes KUIU takes a fabric they like and try to shoe it into to other items and it looks like it failed here.

Anyone try the new KUIU Boonie?

I have always been a big fan of boonie style hats as they protect your neck and ears unlike baseball hats. I am in the market for a new hot weather hat for this summer and maybe to use for Archery Elk. The new KUIU Gila Pro boonie looks interesting but I have not seen any reviews for it. Has...

    Starting out with KUIU

I second this. I have had to lift my cats off me so many times because their claws pull up the fabric so easily.
