Josh Smith from Montana Knife Company

Thanks for posting- will look at ordering a hatchet from them. I have a couple benchmades that I love but I would like to order something more special and small business going forward.

    SAR gear ?

Kinda fancy but leatherman raptors or some sort of trauma shear could be useful. They go through clothes like butter.

    Kuiu Quiver

    That’s a bummer. I can’t switch to hydro flask! I’m not a hippie… :-)

    Starter Bow

Diamond Edge 320 has a ton of adjustability and is decent to shoot. My friend got one as a starter bow and it was a great choice

New hunting arrow setup suggestions, what are y’all shooting?

5mm with HIT inserts and collars. 3 or 4 fletch of your choice. A good mechanical broadhead. 450-490 grains for your draw weight and draw length. I shoot 5mm 300 spine axis with 3 AAE max stealth vanes, 16 grain HITs, 10 grain ironwill collars, 125 grain grim reaper mechanicals. TAW roughly 495...

    Getting into Target Archery

Been shooting hunting bows for about four years now, and thinking about getting into target archery. I love shooting bows and wanted to hear from some folks who have dipped their boots into the target side as well. Why did you start? How has it helped your shooting? Do you compete? It’s pricey...

How much weight on your stabilizers?

I’ve heard Joel Turner talk about how tons of weights on bows are a way to compensate for target panic- just a thought. I used to lug around a ton of weight and liked it but I switched to a quivalizer and 5oz screwed into the back of my riser. I really prefer weight-wise it over a 12 inch with...

    Small form factor tourniquet

Get a SWAT-T. I’m an EMT and I carry one in my pocket at all times, and one in my truck. They’re insanely versatile. Can use as a tourniquet, a pressure dressing, etc. I’ve used them on severe penetrating injuries and they work great. They’re also good for individuals who may not be a good...

    Endurance: Shackleton's South Pole

I started Lansing’s endurance during a slow shift yesterday. I read almost half of it in one day. Unbelievably gripping and inspiring book. The mental and physical fortitude of those men is stunning.

Stuck in Los Angeles for a day, what to do?

2nd for the Gene Autry Western Museum. I grew up 15 minutes away, it’s an absolute gem. Right by the LA zoo as well. The pantry is a legendary diner. Langer’s and Canter’s are excellent delis. LAX is right by the beach. You can go hang out at Manhattan beach or go north a little to malibu pier...

Stone Glacier’s New Chilkoot 15F Sleeping Bag test

I wish they made a 30 degree bag. I’m primarily in CA and AZ and this would be perfect for me. I’ve never had a quilt before and I’m not sure about pulling the trigger on one without trying it first… 15* chilkoot would be way overkill for my use.

Hoyt RX8 Test and Review Q&A/Ideas

Just curious- why not an ultra? For your draw length, I would think that a longer riser might be preferable.

    Smooth bow for bad shoulder

I would highly consider trying a Bowtech on the Smooth setting. It makes me never want to shoot a different bow. I can pull much more weight than my Mathews. YMMV, but I can’t speak highly enough about them.
