Eastern vs western hunting success rate

I'm in Idaho and I have the 2022 general deer season data open from the fish and game. Average success across the entire state is 20%. Two times better than Maine :)

    Legal Idaho Bullet recommendation

I also used No Excuses 50 cal 460 grain the last 2 years for two successful cow elk hunts. I did use their sample sizing sample pack to get the best fit for my rifle (.500" diameter, Knight Ultra-lite).

    Best Puffy?

I've had trouble finding a good one that's somewhat durable. I've had the Super Down ULTRA KUIU. I had trouble with the zipper and they did warranty it and send me a new one. I was wearing it when I fell off a bicycle, it shredded and I never got a new one. For hunts, I'm still using the...

    I'm a slow butcherer...

I wouldn't worry about being slow. It's a blessing to process it yourself and you get to relive the hunt a little longer. Since I started, I'm less picky with cutting off all of the connective tissue. I've found if I do a course and then a fine grind, I don't even notice them in the meals...

    Exercise Equipment

I've had the Assault bike for 3 years and been satisfied with my purchase (very similar to Rogue bike). It's around $700 now. Typical workout is 3 rounds, 8 x 20s sprint / 10s rest. Very effective workout and low impact on the joints

    Bow hunting Bino Harnesses

I also use Marsupial bino + rangefinder and highly recommend it. The magnets are really nice and I've never had anything fall out. The rangefinder and binos both have tethers so you won't lose them if they do fall out. I have the pistol attachment but I haven't used it yet.

    Knight secondary safety

I use a Knight for elk hunting out West. I leave the secondary safety on when hiking in, but I make it red when I'm near the animals. My first time out, I made the mistake of leaving both safeties on while hunting and it cost me a shot.

    Archery release for my 12yo?

I'm trying to make decide what release to use for my son. If you have any extra releases besides your Carter, you may consider whether your could retrofit those to your 12 year old son.

    Resources for Muzzleloader Beginner

Thanks for the tips. I'm excited about getting about a chance to hunt during the rut and get to extend the range compared to a bow.

    Resources for Muzzleloader Beginner

Hello, I recently joined Rokslide. I'm interested in understanding the best resources for learning muzzloaders. I live in Idaho and have 10+ years of rifle and 3 years of archery big game hunting experience. Beyond the Rokslide forums, I'm curious if there are any good books or other resources...
