    Vacuum sealer for around $300?

I'm not sure you even need to spend that much. I've got a Nesco VS-12 (wirecutter's pick) and it works great. It does everything I need to do. The Cabela's 12-inch got wirecutter's honorable mention. But it's 3x the price of the Nesco, and I'm not sure the performance is 3x.

Has anyone tried Umai dry bags for aging?

Personally, I would turn it into prosciutto. Remove the aich bone, expose the femur, push/work the blood out of the femoral artery, salt (and seal if using the equilibrium method), allow it to cure, and then hang it in 80% humidity and 55F until it loses 35% of its hanging weight. The method...

    Tooth Paste Tube Replacement

I definitely cannot stand not brushing my teeth, even in the backcountry. Part of that is just habit. But part of that might be that I'm a prolific cigar smoker when I'm in the backcountry, and going to bed with "cigar mouth" is kinda gross.

Anyone come to a realization how much weight they could cut...

I weigh very little, so cutting pack weight is basically essential for me. It is easier for me to make more money than to gain weight, and it's been like that my whole life. What I found out over time, after reading too many UL backpacking guides is that if you shave grams here and there (cut...

    Pack raft

I bought a Rapid Raft from Uncharted Supply Co. at some point, just before pandemic. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find a rapid deployment raft with as much carry-capacity for the weight. That being said, I don't really think it'll hold 2 people particularly well. The upside is that if you a...

    Tooth Paste Tube Replacement

I carry chewable toothpaste (w/ floride). I only need about 1/2 a tablet per brushing. So 1 tablet lasts 1 day. chewable toothpaste is a weight savings. Not by much, but when you're a gram weenie, every bit counts.

    Dehydrators

I have a 9-tray Excalibur and I can honestly say that I don't recommend it. Stuff dries really unevenly. That being said, the fact that it does more than just dehydrates thinly sliced food (also makes yogurt, proof bread, etc.) is pretty nice. If all you're looking to do is dehydrate food, a...

    Lightest waterproof rain coat?

I've had good experiences with NikWax Techwash and TX.Direct wash-in system for cleaning and replenishing DWR coatings on items that see everyday use.

    Best ultralight pot and pan?

For as straight up pot-only setup, I like the MSR Titan Kettle. The little pour spout is really nice and it can double as a coffee cup. But if you're gonna pair it with a caldera cone-type system from Trail Designs, the evernew becomes a better pot IMO, because of compatibility with the trail...

    Bulletproof instant coffee- diy

I'm more or less a coffee snob. But when going out backpacking, I like to carry G4 coffee. It's a Vietnamese instant coffee brand that you can find at Asian markets. I find it to be the most acceptable tasting instant coffee.

    Worth the weight?

Ultralight camp chair. It's worth the extra 16oz to sit comfortably, relax, drink some coffee, and smoke a cigar at camp.

Who has ditched the trusted Nalgene bottle?

I switched around for a while. I was pretty opposed to carrying a nalgene at first, since I filter using a Katadyn BeFree, but there's just stuff that's a lot easier to do in the wild with a small nalgene (like brushing your teeth). I ultimately went back to a nalgene and I use the little 16oz size.
