It is the MDT field stock. The ergos are great and a huge improvement over stock. Only downside is that it is a little on the heavy side for what I like to pack around.
First time poster in this thread. Got the bug on this a couple years ago and bought this Ruger American Predator when Tikkas were non-existent. Shoots great and I am enjoying loading the TMK. That said, I did shoot some AAC 77gr TMKs yesterday, and as others have experienced, I had a case split...
I'm in Utah and also shoot a 7mag. I shoot a tikka and browning. They both shoot Partitions and Accubonds well. I took an elk with the 160gr Partition in 2021 at 120 yards and it performed beautifully.
I know the south half of the unit well. Cell service isn't terribly hard to get on ridge tops or higher elevation points. Gets worse the deeper you go.
My one and only shot on an elk happened fast. From the time the bull was spotted until the shot rang out was probably 10 seconds after an almost sprint straight uphill. On one knee, shot uphill at 120 yards.
I have trailcam pics of elk feeding in a meadow at night for weeks. One morning, sheep fed through the same meadow. That night, the elk were back momentarily to check it out then disappeared. I think the elk will vacate while the sheep are there, but come back when the party dies down. Sheep...
It shoots the same regardless of brake on or off. And I hadn't even thought about that being an issue until you brought that up. But it makes sense. I'd like to try a suppressor.
I have a Browning in 7RM that came threaded with the radial brake. I've shot it back to back with and without the brake. It's crazy how much it reduces recoil. At the range I'll use the brake, but in the field I use the thread protector. I've never much noticed recoil when firing at game...
I know it's no whitetail so don't crucify me, but I used my first skullhooker this weekend. Stripped the powder and put clear on it. (I have a raw steel theme throughout my house) it's a nice product.
I had the tag last year and have hunted it a lot with family members. There will be a lot of other hunters but it's not too hard to get away from the masses. I ended up with a great bull. Send me a PM and I can give you some info.
