Warbonnet Outdoors has the best combination of quality, features, weight, and price IMO. I spec’d out quilts from El Coyote, Hammock Gear, EE, UGQ, and probably a couple others. None of them were as good as Warbonnet. I live in WA and use quilts year round. I went with a 20 degree quilt for 3...
Underquilts are for hammocks. If you have a properly rated ground pad, you don’t need other insulation under you. With sleeping bags, the insulation is compressed and doesn’t offer as much warmth. The biggest thing with quilts in cold weather is to make sure drafts are sealed out. Pad attachment...
I use the 20 degree down quilt and a 50 degree synthetic quilt to layer over the top. Gets me down to zero but with two quilts you have some flexibility throughout the year. The other good thing about a synthetic quilt on top is moisture will rise through the down and collect on the synthetic...
For those running Seek Outside packs, what are you using for a rifle carrier? I was looking at the Kifaru Gun Bearer or maybe trying to rig up the Exo K4 quick release. Any other options?
- I’ve tried the Sierra Designs Animas, Nemo Fillo, Trekology, and S2S Aeros premium.
- I sleep all over the place: stomach, back, and side.
- I’m currently using the S2S Aeros premium. It’s comfortable, lightweight, and has enough height for side sleeping. The Nemo Fillo was probably the most...
Nemo Tensor insulated long wide or Sea to Summit Ether Lite XT women’s, it’s warmer than the men’s and maybe lighter. Both plenty big and comfortable for me at 6’3 240, side and stomach sleeper.
I recommend trying a quilt. They are so much more comfortable than a sleeping bag. I use a Warbonnet Outdoors 20 degree with all the extra features, no overfill. It weighs about 26oz and was $365 w/tax and shipping. I’m going to make a 50 degree synthetic quilt to layer over the top to get down...
If you want to try quilts look into Warbonnet Outdoors. For the features, weight, and price I don’t think you can beat it. I have a 20 degree I switched to after using sleeping bags forever and I’ll never go back.
I run the Badlands XR and like it a lot. Binos and range finder in the flip pouches. One zipper pocket holds speed reloads for the muzzleloader, the other side wind indicator, lens pen, etc… The back pouch I can fit my phone or a pistol.
I use the Cascade Mountain Tech from Costco and they are a game changer. Uphill, downhill, water crossings, blowdowns, they’re useful pretty much everywhere. I have several hundred miles on them and no complaints. The tips wore out but that’s an easy replacement. Skurka has a long term review...
