    Traditional vs Elope

In the words of the Steve Miller Band... "Take the Money and Run". A do-over would be an elope. And the Mrs agrees. That being said, my daughter went the quasi trad route. Small wedding at our place, friends bar tending, I put together a plywood dance floor on the lawn, and more friends ran...

    One more career finished

1600 hrs, November 15, 2024 marked the close of 33 years in a career that took me a lot of places, foreign and domestic, and some pretty remote and wild localtions. Time to see what the next 33 will bring! Fortunately my knees are still good so mountain hunting will continue!

    Grizzly 399 Vigil

If that had happened up here, the person who hit the bear probably would have punched their grizzly tag.... different world north of sixty. :D

    Recommended factory loads

Slightly smaller but my wife shoots 140 gr Nosler with Accubonds out of her Sako finnlight 7-.08. So far sheep, moose and now an elk have lost the arguement.

    2024 OFFICIAL ELK MEAT POLE

Wife tagged her first elk on Wed, night. Yukon has a very limited amount of draw tags (there are OTC but finding an elk in those open areas are very, very slim), 14 in total and 8 are for 5 point or less. She received a 5 point or less tag. 200 yard shot with her Sako 7-.08 and it never...

    Life after stents?

Had a stent put in 2019 at age 57. 2021 I was packing my daughter's ram off the mountain. Follow the doc's post-op physio program and get back to enjoying what you do. You'll enjoy life even more.

    Why?

I'm proud to say that my kids seemed to have disregarded the memo that says this gen is lazy and nonproductive. My daughter finished high school at 16- doing extra courses on her own to finish early, she was in college at 16. Got her RN and worked as an operating room nurse, finished her...

The one we had to let go

Sept 1st was the opener in the Yukon for the lucky 8 people who drew tags. My wife is the recipient of a 5 point or less bull permit (there are 4 of these, 2 any bull and 2 cow ) . Our place is in the middle of her zone. It's a long season, Sept 01 to March 31st so sometimes the urgency isn't...

    Sheep mount ideas

I'm waiting on a interestingly coloured wolverine from the trap line then i'd like to get him mounted in a defiant stance with one paw on one of the dall skulls and horns I've got in the back shop.

    What's your elk schedule?

My wife drew a rare Yukon elk tag, one of only 8 they let go up here. Opens Sept 01 until march 31. Usually I hear them bugling if I'm out on the front lawn... quiet so far. It's been quite a few years since i got to hunt elk, should be fun.

Kimber Hunter Pro vs Browning X Bolt Hell's Canyon vs CA Mesa

    I have 2 kimbers, a montana and a varmit pro. I'd buy a 3rd in a heart beat. I also have a couple of sakos... so i personally won't buy a Tikka.

    "new" trapping machine

I've ridden in them before, a friend has one. Fortunately I'm pretty mechanically inclined so not worried about the "fixin'" part. lol What's the saying? low and slow but away they'll go? :) I'll take 10 mph with a moose in the back over having to pack it for miles!
