I have painted my duck gun due to hunting salt marshes and using it as a boat paddle. Paint and an hard epoxy clear coat has held up as well as any cerakote has for me.
I give a lot of it away, i just cant stand wheelin and dealin with people. I post it for a fair price, dont nickel and dime me for 3 days of facebook messenger chats. Id rather throw the shit out than make a dollar at that point.
As a NJ coast resident , that's 10 hours closer than me. Wyo border is 26 hours, I'd go every year if it was 16. I can do that in a day, 26 takes much more out of me.
I was always 50/50 on hunting pa or not, but looks like ill be hunting it every year now.
I ditched the backpack years ago. It just made me carry more shit I don't need and was a paint to have a mobile setup on my back. My kit is modified a bit from below, but it gets the gist of it.
"Below is a list of the things that I carry in my pack at all times or what I call “essentials”...
+/-1 for SST. I wish i had your experience with SST's. Mine has ruined trips and made nightmares.
Maybe 300gn SST MZ are different from 300gn Sabot slugs?
I have shot 1 deer and not recovered with SST MZ, 100% probably me missing,(after bad slug gun experiences) but bigger sample size is slug...
@JTabora
Thank you for linking that. Very interesting read and my google searches had me going in circles. All of my searches lacked the word iridescent.
Well I ate 1lb if it so far. Maple breakfast sausage cut with pork butt. Taste good.
Might be the first time butchering not a few beers deep. Got into my own head I guess.
That was the weird part. The outside looked fine. Cut this chunk and it looked like it oxidized before my eyes. Usually we butcher outside under head lamps. First time doing it in sunlight in a while.
Cut it and it’s pink then right away some color pops
Passes the sniff test. It’s being ground...
Shot a doe last night. Temp was 35° got down to low 20’s over night. Clean shot and kill. Gutted the deer and drove home.
Had it sit in my truck bed till this morning and when cutting around the ball joint some of the meat looked like this after I cut it. Am I over reacting? I’ve helped...
I bought a gun from the bass pro in NJ back in august. Now, NJ sucks with guns to begin with... but awful experience behind the counter. Pretending to work.
Order ruger american gen 2 online. Get it shipped to store. They call and let me know it's in and everything is all set. I get there for...
Cabelas bargain cave
I used to look forward to going into the bargain cave. I got so much cabelas branded wool from there in the middle of july. The wooltimate with wind shear is still my go to hooded pullover along with a nice set of bibs in grey. And i snagged red checkered cabelas 'mackinaw...
St croix has been on a downswing for while. I no longer use their products.
For an extra fast rod, Daiwa is my go to now. The RG is a walleye rod. Best $100 rod out there. I use them for finesses jigs, neds, tubes, blade baiting, and trout.
I read somewhere that prime isn't needed (lower 48). They spent so much time engineering and planning how to do 2 day shipping, that they cant selectively pick out 1 order out of 1000 that don't have prime and intentionally slow it down.
It kind of makes sense, although I know less than...
I hunt better solo. No seconds thoughts, no one questioning my thinking. Not worrying about them making noise or stopping when I need to listen better.
But I do like deer hunting 'together' Meaning 2 or 3 guys in the same square mile. You know you cover it well, and if deer are bumped, you can...
I want a bullet that has reliable expansion and retains weight. Ideally it looses all the energy in the animal and barely pokes through the other side and fall to the ground. I want an entry AND exit wound. It doesn't need to be able to shoot through a second object animal after it has already...
Never had a shooting stage, or trophy stage. Kind of straight to sportsman stage.
I get mocked by friends and family for being a bad hunter.
I love duck hunting, and rarely shoot anything close to a limit (Atlantic flyway NJ). I don't shoot garbage ducks, so while others shoot 18...
As a 3rd gen owner, I would not sell it just yet. Dealing with emissions is just a PIA
I paid $13,000 for mine with 129,000 miles on it and a new tranny in 2019 before the world went crazy. I thought about selling it when things were peak and making some money.
But it puts a smile on my face...
