@c00p successful hunt on the morning of day 5 in 31. Typical hunt - dealt with rain, sleet, snow, and then, a full moon for most of it. Pretty easy unit to get around, generally. CPW in Grand Junction was well informed on what gates were open / closed. Plenty of places to camp in 31. Feel...
Cracked up at this, but it's a fair question.
Keep the dude wipes in your sleeping bag - keeps them warm over night vs. pulling the icy wipes out of the pack for morning duty... of course, that advice works for the morning duty less so for the impromptu mid-day/mid-hike business
Seriously, I've just heard all of the negatives about eating bear meat. Never tried it.
I have a bear tag in my pocket for another hunt this fall and am glad to hear some of the bear recipes. Nice work on the thread @BabyT
I'll keep watching for feedback from @Clarktar
Good stuff.
Noted this channel (and date of post) and thought I'd reach out to hear how it went and what manner you hunted (DIY or guided). I'm hunting in there this year with a couple other guys. We are heading in DIY and on the fence about whether or not to basecamp or carry our tents and make tracks...
I have a pair of Danner pronghorns (uninsulated) that have been on a couple of early season elk hunts and several flatland hunts. Lots of miles but discovered Zamberlans and I switched out. (y)
Nice. I've been using their headlamp as well. Love the durability of the lamp. Also, have been using their trekking poles. No complaints. Appreciate their products!
interesting - saw on an earlier thread one of the Roksliders suggested chocolate-covered espresso beans in order to avoid brewing in the morning when trying to get out on the hunt. Pretty great idea.
Still something about getting that hot cup, though
I'll echo on the Peak Biscuits-n-Gravy.
I have tried several different kinds of pre-packaged items, but I keep coming back to the Peak Refuel. I field strip them for packing and I split some of them for breakfast and lunch.
Good luck with your hunt, if you haven't hunted yet.
Good comments above on calibers and yardage. I like the 6.5 PRC. My dad likes the 280 Rem. My grandfather used a 30-06.
Camo - sometimes it's hard to know if camo is more for the buyer or more for the game animal, but I like to match camo...
My flatland boots are a pair of Danner's, but I have a couple of years experience with the Zamberlan Saguaro (uninsulated) in the Colorado mountains. Looking to add a pair of Zamberlan insulated boots to the hunting wardrobe this year given my experience with the uninsulated set. The Zams have...
I just wrapped up a pronghorn hunt in NM Unit 46 with my 6.5 PRC. I used the Hornady 143 gr. ELD-X. I did what I was supposed to, and the round did what it was supposed to. This is my 2nd pronghorn with this particular rifle & round. Both have been shoulder shots, with the latest being at 318...
