Did get better performance after adding the o-rings to my breech plug and using the Rio primers. No misfires with 10+ shots with BH209. Those two things seems to have helped a lot. I'm crossing my fingers for this to continue. Here is my group at 50 yards, open sights out of my CVA wolf, 110...
flush, 1/2 turn out, 1 full turn out. (left to right). I think flush to 1/2 turn seems like where the adjustments might be. full turn out seems way too much.
Never considered messing with the bushing. I remove it to clean the firing pin and firing pin spring. I have always tightened it snuggly regardless of what primer I'm using - reasonable amount of force, make it nice and snug, nothing more. Never considered not backing it down all the way. Is...
Awesome. Appreciate that. I do get a lot of residue blow back especially with the T7 and the bigger the charge, the more residue I get. I can save a few and post them as reference.
I did notice the T7 was forming balls or clumps in my little tin of powder that I use while on the range. I am assuming its picking up moisture. It still ignited fine for now. I think the shelf live for t7 is like one year and that was my sign to use it up. I just store in the garage but MO has...
Thanks. Didn't know that.. I'd like a picture of that. I thought they went around the primer before seating the primer in place and one per shot. Good to know.
No mind. It's not an expensive gun so I won't worry. The gun serves to take game. T7 noticeable more difficult to clean then BH209. I can come back to the gun a week later and I have new layer of build up with t7. That was not an issue with BH209.
Now I need to some o-rings to go muzzleloader hunting? "Oh ****, I forgot the o-rings back at the truck." When someone first mentioned this, I thought they were teasing me. How did the early pioneers manage this? I'm sure they would have starved if their lives depended on BH209. This seems a...
BH209 definitely very popular but finding the "correct" primers was impossible to locate. As of today, I have not located any and sort of gave up for now and using Triple 7 which has been going boom much more consistently out of my CVA wolf. That's what I will hunt with this season. Maybe I...
Doesn't it seem a little strange that BH209 has characteristics so different that any other black powder or substitute. Shelf life, cleanup, ballistics, requirements for ignition, etc?
It's like the archery world where the crossgun came into the picture and we had all the states adopting it for their archery seasons and Missouri held out for a few years and then succumbed to the industry.
The Tenpoint Nitro 505 supposedly shots at 505 ftp and it's cocked all the time and no...
What I have read is you need to get the primer setup right - exact fit and hot ignition, that's why the suggested CCI mag primers or Federal 209A and the right breech plug but also a great compression from the muzzle end - with bullets, patches/plugs, and a really hard push from the ram rod. I...
