Depends on the terrain you hunt but if it’s deep timber/brush country I can’t recommend the Kuiu Kutana stretch woven enough. They are the best archery pants I’ve ever owned by far. I’m on year 4 with my original pair and have yet to rip or snag the pants.
If you find the cows you’ll inevitably find bulls. Although it’s fun to glass bachelor groups in the summer I never pay much attention to areas unless there is a heavy cow elk presence.
Good info here. I've killed bulls on August 30th through the last week of September.. I choose to hunt the first week because I know my areas well and there's less pressure. If it's your first time up north it's going to be a learning experience either way. Elk get pushed around a lot in this...
I’ve killed a few nice bulls in 8a. Much better unit to archery hunt due to thick terrain and lack of glassing opportunities. If you have onX or BaseMap, look at past timber harvests in the area, preferably 5 years old, and target those. That was my tactic for the two rifle bulls I’ve killed but...
Looks like a classic Idaho bull to me. Weak on the back end but nice mass and solid main beams. He looks to me like he’s right in the 300”-305” inch range. Great bull.
There’s never been a better time to be a successful elk hunter. Take advantage of the all tools at your disposal(internet, YouTube, elk101, ElkNut app). You will find elk are fairly consistent creatures in their movements and sounds. Try to spend as much time around elk listening and observing...
The best tactic I have found for early season archery is raking. ElkNut goes in depth about this. Highly recommend getting his app. In thick timbered country, find areas with fresh sign and new rubs. Bulls are very territorial, and setting up adjacent to bedding areas while doing a raking...
