Always off. I was in a freezing hunt and my buddy left it on. Ended up freezing on the meat. Once it thawed enough to get it off the meat was not very good.
Yep. I am not into mornings but I try to adjust my schedule before I go hunt becuase my days start late but go late when I’m not hunting.
My hunting buddies give me a hard time, they say I sound like an old lady at a funeral when I’m getting up. It does make for a good laugh in the dark while...
Maybe I’m in the minority but I carry a very lightweight .40 m and p in my pack to put on my hip while I break an animal down. I have bear spray on the side of my pack as it is less cumbersome for my pack. I also don’t worry too much becuase I don’t hunt grizz country and steer clear of property...
I have hunted the opener, during muzzleloader and the last week of the season. I lean towards the last part of the season, after muzzleloader. I feel like many of the archery guys are gone and muzzleloader is done. Less pressure and the weather seems to be more favorable.
I’d say just get out and hunt. You’d be surprised how elk move. Find some drainages and good looking timber and see if elk get pushed in. I am an otc guy and have had elk in surprising places becuase of where other hunters push them. Just my two cents.
Way to get it done Dioni, awesome backs for sure! This thread has been great, after striking out on all my elk tags I still have hope for my Wyoming deer tag, the info hear has really got me thinking of scenarios and their behavior. Thanks all.
yes, the cows are definitely protecting their new borns for sure. With that said, old ladies walking their dogs and a four year old in a park are hardly tourons or people acting like idiots on the golf course trying to take pictures that deserve to get stomped. Unfortunate all around but those...
Cnelk is correct. For us adults this is way better than Christmas! Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is great for our kids but damn, I really want to know!
There are many factors that go into picking the time. Moon phase is one. Another is when is muzzleloader season? How high is the elevation around the area, is 5000 feet the top? They will stay high until weather or pressure brings them down. I think as time goes on in the season pressure...
Hard to tell for sure. I have my fingers crossed to cash in on my 11 Wyoming points this year for the reasons you can read in many threads here. With that said, my plan is to hunt the first 8 days and if I can’t get it done then I will go the last 8 days of the month. For what it’s worth.
Hard...
I have to agree that it does not look like the same cape. That sucks, I’d say either get a new one and redo it, which you will know isn’t right anyway or just mount the rack. I’m no taxidermist but if you can take it off and euro it that’s what I would do. I love my euros, I think they just look...
I would keep looking, elk are where you find them. I have a lot of rubs around my house, in three years have only seen the elk during daylight a handful of times, they seem to move trough in the middle of the night.
Also, I hunted some SWA during fourth season this year, all the elk I saw were...
Even California requires you to tell them if you are successful or not. If you don’t you get charged $25 before you can buy a tag the next year. Crazy Colorado doesn’t have a requirement.
