There is no one who wants a bullet proof leupold more than me.
You are dead on. “Reason number one we miss: we suck.” I killed a pile of animals with a leupold, but there is a reason I don’t own one any more.
It’s not a big stretch. I see the guys who post “mine has never lost zero” all the time. Thousands of rounds and big game animals over 400 yards is not in their wheelhouse. Not stupid, just an observation. You may be the exemption.
I take the killing of big game far more seriously than...
I’ve never had a leupold that kept zero. Always a little off. Not enough to miss at 200 yards, but always off. None would hold zero on any sort of impact. I’d wager most guys who say “mine has never lost zero” shoot a box of ammo a year and call it good and don’t kill much beyond 200 yards. They...
Congratulations on your first deer! You are also asking the right questions.
I see you were aiming "behind the shoulder", which is where i was taught to hold as a kid. The idea is hitting a deer here will waste little meat. My personal experience is this is not the best spot to put a bullet for...
My main rifle is a tikka that lives in an @XLR chassis, inletted for the long action magazine.
Currently I have the 3.56 MDT magazines that run great in the chassis.
I am adding a few barrels to my line up, including a .223 and possible 6arc
Does anyone make a spacer kit to the 3.56 magazine...
Save your energy for when it makes sense to hunt all day. Early and late seasons are a no go for me. Peak rut only.
I set up full day sits like most use marathon running or meditation some other mentally tough endevour. I know its not easy, embrace the bordom.
Coffee. Or adderall.
Break the...
Aoudad hunting in that country is one of my favorites!
Fitness: Be able to climb and descend 500-1000 foot hills multiple times a day, maybe all day. The outfitter should be able to guide you more on expected fitness.
Gear:
A good pair of binos and a tripod will be your best friend
Good pair...
I had no issues with my XLR. I got a picture from the outfitter i hunted with in NZ- he liked my chassis so much, both he and one of his guides purchased the same XLR as me.
@Hydra6 This is consistent with what i have observed. I havent burned out nearly the barrels you PRS guys do, but I shoot my hunting rifles a bit. Ive noticed the "light switch" from good to bad happen in like 50-100 rounds consistently.
Great question and one I don’t have an answer to. It seems to me that when a barrel goes south, it seems to drop velocity in a short time frame. I’ve never shot them past this period, would be interested to know.
