There are plenty of nice neighborhoods under 30 minutes from Denver. Yes you get elk hunting and some decent deer hunting which is what has kept me here. Also someone mentioned taxes.....if you are going to point out the higher sales and income tax, it should be mentioned our property taxes...

    Colorado Mule Deer Outfitter review

If this is the case def wait a year and get the 4th season tag IMO. Or maybe split your hunt into 2 years and do 2/2? If you guys get crappy weather or have a disappointing hunt that's 80+ years of points spent!

    Calling all Colorado Bear aficionados

The units I hunt, it seems they are pretty abundant and I don't know that there is any rhyme or reason. I hunt elk in Sept, shot one on day 1 of archery 2021, could have shot multiple in 2022 (no tag focused on elk), and 2023 way VERY wet during the muzzleloader season and I didn't see a single...

I'm some ways, yes we do. It's one of the few ways we can build wealth and personal equity. If you follow the changes to the new blended retirement system the pension isn't what it used to be. Service members in most cases work 20 years serving when they could be making more as civilians. Can't...

Yeah it isn't cheap that's for sure and either way BAH isn't going to cover it with interest rates. 40% seems a little extreme, we live about 5 minutes outside of Southgate in a great neighborhood and still have plenty of houses sell for 350-400 in our neighborhood. Granted they are older homes...

Choosing where to live in Colorado

Hey Balder, First off I want to say thank you for all of this great info. These are a lot of the nuggets and experiences I really value. I should also clarify, I am switching departments, but it's kind of a unique situation because I am an active duty military FF who is crossing over into the...

If living on base then yes or if he is an O. If enlisted the comments definitely apply. Our BAH has hardly kept up with housing costs. If he wants to live in North Springs/Monument you are looking at a 500-600K house at a 6% rate which is not going to be covered by BAH.

Choosing where to live in Colorado

That is a pretty big appeal to staying where I'm at. South Metro, COS, Denver, Westy are all among some of the best paying places in the states. Commutes are pretty easy even if I stay here with a 48/96 schedule. I did see Summit county just opened and I'd love to look into that. No clue if...

Choosing where to live in Colorado

I would 100% love to live in Gunnison. I hunt out there every year and do make a few fishing trips out there. Unfortunately I think most of the departments out there are volunteer gigs.

Choosing where to live in Colorado

I am in a position to where I am trying to figure out what area to live or stay in Colorado so I am looking for some input. Specifically, those who live out on the Western Slope. I am currently living in Colorado Springs and I don't mind it. The military brought us here and we have enjoyed our...

    Colorado Springs

I am active duty at the Academy right now and have been here for about 3 years. I am separating and we are likely staying here. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions. I'm going to go against the grain here and say a lot of these opinions are a little bit stretched or are coming from...

    Sleep pad help

The Klymaloft by Kylmit (I think thats what its called) was game changing for me. I used to run the cheap klymit ones and having this one I sleep SO much better. It's almost like a memory foam type material but still light. Amazing

    CO Elk Structure, 2025+

It's amazing to me also, but I think a lot of things play into it. 1. $760 actually isn't as much money as it used to be (obviously). 2. You have a huge amount of people who don't understand draws nor care to learn about them so they hunt OTC. 3. First time people who have no idea what they are...

    CO Elk Structure, 2025+

I mean at the end of the day that's the hunter's choice. The problem right now is people aren't needing to pick stacking points or hunting. Especially if they change tag allocation's, there is no reason a resident shouldn't get to hunt every year. If they want to collect points for 10 years to...

    CO Elk Structure, 2025+

That's kind of what I was thinking...even if it was $10-$20 I'd def still throw in every week. Look at some of the high profile tags that made the list this year. Desert Sheep? Just last week they had 2 deer tags that took RESIDENTS 11 points to get. You'd have tons of people putting in for...
