    Where to hunt mountain lions?

No one believes me when I tell them we have a lot of big cats in northern Arizona because conventional wisdom says it's too far south, but anything north of the Mongolian Rim is cat territory, and you can do it with temperature in double digit F even in the dead of winter.

    Eberlestock gun runner

I have a Gunslinger with the external frame that I use for Javelina and Coyote hunts. Very comfortable - big enough for a day + minimalist overnight hunting and study enough I can strap an animal to it (jammed into the frame elbow if I can). I have a handful of Kifaru bags that are lighter and...

Did any of you guys go directly into big game hunting as opposed to small game hunting first?

I did a quail and dove hunt with a friend that I hated, then helped him do a deer hunt before I started doing big game - I don't want to get out of bed for anything less than 25 pounds, it's too much work and cost for the returns. Now that I have dogs who love rabbit hunts I'll do those with...

Other than big game hunting what is your go to small game hunting?

A very American Southwest thing, but I love Javelina hunting. Just big enough to justify taking the day off - small enough you can hike it out yourself with ease and have it all packed up the day you get it, easy hunting with a call and a bit of experience. Plus my dogs love the hunt.

Jeep Gladiator - good hunting rig?

I used to have a Suzuki Samurai that was great for weekend solo hunts but recently got a 96 Mitsubishi Delica Spacegear 2.8L Turbo Diesel as a direct JDM import. It was $8000 delivered to my front door and even just stock got me deeper than dudes with Tacoma TRD Sports or a Rubicon. I have yet...

    backpacks with dividers

Some Eberlestock might have some options for you - the Phantom is by no means small by 100% does what you want - (The Operator is even larger) otherwise, the X1 Euro/Just One and X1A3 are all smaller daypacks that give you separate compartments with some overlap and expanding options, but not a...

What do you take to eat for a day hunt?

I always find myself with too much food so I've been trying to cut back. I'm down to just water, some dried fruit, a sandwich and some bars. Jet boil and some coffee stuff in the bag if it is a particularly cold day.

    GPS Tracker?

I have the Garmin Alpha 100 and a pair of T10 collars for my pups - it would do fine - the collar batteries will outlast the handheld. It would be $500-700 if you find one used to get into, not sure what your threshold of pain for pricing is.

Is the stand alone GPS a thing of the past?

+1 On the Alpha 100. I picked one up to manage the dogs on dog hunts and, battery life issues aside, the Alpha has become my main GPS - I just wish they hadn't used that type of USB port since the only other thing that uses it are my old graphic calculators. I just don't get the gps reception...

    FNG

I've had this account for literally years and wanted to start actually posting and sending pms, so here I am. Based out of Arizona - I'm mostly interested in larger game hunts like deer and Javelina - Jav hunts with my Dogo Argentinos - or Predator hunts.
