We are always super careful with meat in the backcountry, but then some things change. This year, we hiked 3/4 of the elk out in dark, directly to our trucks and ditched the rough camp that was a few miles in. We headed into town for a warm shower, hot meal, and a proper bed after 5 days out...
I like the double door for access in and out, but that said, I have never been in the single door option. Agree with Bearsears about screens; not necessary and if things get buggy every once in awhile, there are other, temporary solutions to deal with them.
I have hanwag gtx boots; unlined uninsulated version. Nothing but good things to say; very comfortable and durable. Wish the toe wrap went all the way around the sides, but that said it hasn't impacted durability. Waterproofing has steadily decreased with years (5+ now i believe) of good use...
We had pretty heavy winds this past season without any issues with Redcliff. Obviously not as efficient in terms of at actual physics, but I don't view it as a deficiency.
Also use the redcliff for 2 or 3 people with stove. Four with stove would be too tight, in tough weather, I think. Definitely recommend the liners for cold weather use. We have half a liner and one guy always gets the soggy spot.
@LionHead: 12-man tent, as mentioned, seems like too much IMO.
Tall boots are sure nice in the snow. I still wear gaiters in snowy conditions, but like the double protection of both gaiters and taller boots to keep socks dry(-ier).
