I think it's that people have hunted the Haul Road and had really negative experiences. In 2023 I went for the first time and the migration was really bad. When I mean frustrating I mean spotting a group of bulls 3 miles off the road in my spotting scope and being the first ones to go after them...
My advice would be as follow:
Whitetails are far spookier from movement than elk
Learn the thermals
Elk do not distribute across the landscape like deer. Deer are spread out, Elk move and an area can be completely devoid of elk
Learn to shoot a long ways. A lot of whitetail hunters I know...
Area I hiked into this morning had a small logging operation going on. The habitat looks good, but my question is does this chase all the elk away. Do you give it a one mile radius or so?

I had number 1599 and most units were sold out by the time it got to me. I did get a Elk City B tag and a whitetail tag for 14. Insanity, 3 years ago I got a Salmon B tag at 5000 in line. I can't believe you can buy for multiple people in person. What a general waste of time and money this...
