Rifle doesn’t open until the Saturday before thanksgiving. Muzzleloader opens 2 weeks before rifle does. Bow season opens the fourth Saturday in September and theres a 3 day hunt in August. Elk is a draw hunt.
It can hurt. Make sure you use bore guides and a good rod. I’d guess more barrels are ruined by the break in process than helped over crappy cleaning practices and supplies.

Whatever distance you’re sighted in at doesn’t change with the magnification. What does change is if you a holdover type scope. This is also only true if it’s a SFP, and not ffp. So your initial zero is fine, but the holdovers change as you zoom in and out
