Thru hike: trail runners or boots

Congrats. Hope your feet heal quickly. My wife does ultras. She was a pacer for the Western States Marathon in 2023. Those people are nuts and impressive.

Thru hike: trail runners or boots

You need to add Usain Bolt to that list, 23+ mph on day three.

Thru hike: trail runners or boots

This seems like a fun hike but I want to know how you are reaching max speeds of 16+ mph while walking with a backpack.

    Go to EDC?

Chris Reeves small Inkosi. Since 2017, it’s the only pocket knife I’ve carried. All of my benchmade, spyderco, and lionsteel knives have sat in the safe.

    Garmin Fenix

I have a Fenix 5, 10-12 days between charges, just depends on how often I use the GPS and track my running. My wife is an ultra runner and uses Garmin, don’t remove what model she has but it’s be bulletproof. I would recommend the Garmin watches.

    Kauai hunting/spear fishing contacts?

There was another thread here on RS asking about similar guide services on Kauai and I posted a link to an outfit out of Eleele, but can’t remember the name at the moment. I go to Kauai often but have never used them. I seem to remember a few thumbs up from RS members about that particular...

    Steels, sharpening, edge angles?

You can build your own strop with ease. Go to a tack/saddle shop and pick up some scrap leather. Glue two large paint stirring sticks together, then glue the leather to the stick (glue slick side of leather to stick). You can pick up stropping compound online.

Have you ever seen a wolverine in the Lower 48?

As a biologist in California…when I first started my career my boss told me, “If you ever see a wolverine don’t tell anyone unless you have photos, hair, or blood samples…I’ll accept your blood and scars as evidence as well.” Ten years later (see my earlier post in this thread) I got to help...

Have you ever seen a wolverine in the Lower 48?

I helped the CDFW set out trail cameras for wolverine at Fordyce lake back around 2010. Within a week we had photos of a wolverine.

Most expensive thing you lost while hunting

Sworovski SLCs fell out of the truck when I got out to take a leak. Didn’t notice for about an hour and when we went back someone had already found them. That stung for a while.

    Elmax vs s90 vs M4

Tall_Vol44 I have a Phil Wilson South Fork in K390 and really really love the steel. It’s been used for field dressing elk and deer and then butchering. Sharpening on a stone is something it has only seen once in the 8 years I’ve had it. Although I do hit a strop after I am done field dressing...
