Base-layer Recommendations for Nevada Archery Mule Deer

For your sake I really hope the highs are in the 80s! I really prefer the kuiu 145 shirt over the 120. Being able to unzip and let some air in is great. That shirt, the katana stretch woven pants, and a flannel for the morning / afternoon has been my go to kit for many years.

    Cot paired with pad advise

Do you have old sleeping bags you can bring and lay on top of? That paired with a piece of foam or cheap camping pads has worked great for us.

    Game bird Mounts

I was thinking about getting a few done this year along with a hun. My trapper buddies seem to all have a bobcat swiping at a pack of chukar, it’s cool

Thinking of a new sleeping bag

I’m also a side sleeper and bought a sequoia after freezing my butt off one night in another bag. It’s my favorite thing to pack now if it’s gonna be cold out because I know I’ll be sleeping comfortable. A few weeks ago i did a few nights with 10 degree lows no problem. Shook the ice off the...

    Enclosed trailer build/condensation

Question to the guys that have done a buildout before: I have a 20’ enclosed trailer that I’m looking to add a diesel heater to, wondering if it makes sense to insulate the whole dang thing if all I have to do is bring an extra gallon or two of diesel on weekend trips? Would save tons of time...

    TIRES - Ford F150 FX4

I don’t deal with as insane of temp differences as you, but after talking to a college buddy that owns a tire shop, he said ridge grapplers over KO2s all day. I was shocked how much more quiet they are on the highway. Do great in snow, mud, rough trails.

Options for a packable non-mummy bag?

I too hate mummy bags. Went with a WM semi rectangular and it’s been great. https://www.westernmountaineering.com/sleeping-bags/specification-chart/

$5k - $6k for a hunt….where would you go, what would you hunt?

I bet if you called a guide in Texas, you could clip and axis deer, some hogs, sand hill cranes, and probably one other little side activity. I went in May (just for axis) and it was really great. Will be going again.

Do you take a backup rifle on hunts?

I pretty much always have a backup if I’m driving more than 2-3 hours. Have had a rifle and a shotgun fail on me out in the sticks, probably could have fixed both issues one way or another, but just grabbed backup and moved on.

    Bigger or lighter tent

There isn’t really a one and done solution here. Depends on distance on foot, how many nights, how many people you will be with, the weather, how many time you are setting up and breaking down camp, etc. If you hunt with a buddy, get a 3-4 man tent and let you budget be your guide...

    Upgrade or punt 300wby

I think all in the rifle weighs in over 11lbs. And no I don’t need a light rifle for my kids, I need a right handed one, but thanks for towing the line as the required internet troll. Yes, I’m a lefty, but now that my kids are old enough that they are clearly not left handed and it would be...

    Upgrade or punt 300wby

Hey all, I’ve got an elk hunt in October (for lead time reference) that id like to take my older 300wby on. My only hesitation is that it’s a heavy sob, and this will be a ton of big mountain hiking. The gun is great, total shooter. I ordered a peak 44 black tooth stock the day I got the...

    Kodiak vestibule wing opinions

When you use the vestibule wing they tell you to buy a grommet kit to have it work properly, I just used the same grommet kit to add a grommet in the dead center of the vestibule and stuck a piece of pvc with a nail in a cap (pointy side in) that was an inch or two taller and all water shed off...

    Enclosed trailer advice

I will 5th or 6th vote for 8.5 width, it is really nice to be able to have a few different options for sleeping arrangements inside and the extra 18” makes a big difference. Also being able to move stuff around in the trailer after the SxS is loaded is great.

    Thoughts on Liquidating Retirement Accounts

The loan option is a great choice, if allowed by the plan administrator. Lets you keep your money at the casino (market), and you are paying yourself interest, so technically you can “contribute” over the maximum amount allowed.
